Just so you know, the current one has a superabundance of great games that do not require your double stick want. http://www.metacritic.com/games/psp/alpha/ in fact it has more critically acclaimed (rated 75+) games than the DS has (by the way it doesn't have any of your sticks). Also the PSP has a bunch of free flash based games http://www.psponme.com/list_psp.asp?cat=Arcade and a bunch of PS1 and other games from the playstation store. So in many ways this "single stick" PSP does in fact have both the MOST GAMES and the BEST GAMES.

required

Comments on Sony sorts out the UK PSP-3000 release situation

It'll never happen, no one will write software for it since it's hasn't been a core feature and the game wouldn't work on a TONLOAD of current PSP in the wild. It's not quite as easy as say, a switch on/off rumble feature. Dual analog would affect core gameplay enough that it also couldn't be a simple control scheme difference.

hfm

Comments on Sony sorts out the UK PSP-3000 release situation

I think you are wrong about Dual analog not working.

#1 The game engine itself is loaded into the system's memory and run mostly from there. Button functions are not accessed from the ROM of the disk. If UPDATES came out for the games, the updates could be stored on the memory card with the game data saves.

YES, software updates could be issued to alter control.

#2 Old games could be updated to play on a newer PSP...NEW GAMES with DUAL ANALOG would entice more buyers if their gameplay was good enough to warrant buying them. That would rejuvenate developers to develop new software (based on old and current games ) for PSP.

Dual analog would be perfect for FPS games which are currently the number one selling genre. The only thing it's missing is an internal hard drive/SSD.

To answer your question, yes, the PSP does sell, and in recent months has been doing very well for itself.
