And based on the review at:

http://unitstep.net/blog/2008/08/26/acer-aspire-on- e-6-cel l-vs-3-cell-battery-comparison/

I think the 6-cell is definitely the one to get if you might use it to occupy your time on a cross-country flight.

The dings on the Acer at this point seem to be:

- Its an 8.9" screen in a 10" netbook. So its bigger than the Dell for example, which means its got a great keyboard, but the screen isn't any bigger. Why not get an MSI Wind (if the trackpad didn't suck) or a Lenovo S10, which are presumably about the same physical size?

- It doesn't have bluetooth. If you're going to tether it to your cell phone, this might be a deal killer. If you want to use a mouse, you can always go with one of those Logitech's with the nearly invisible "nano" USB receiver.

- The speakers are apparently anemic. Unlike the Dell's for example, which are apparently quite loud. Probably not great for watching a movie with your BFF side-by-side.

- The trackpad buttons are in the wrong place, and are even a little difficult to click. I think you can live with this, just get used to using your forefinger to click them rather than your thumbs.

Anything else wrong with it? I can't remember if the screen was a big glossy/glare-inducing...

Fanfoot

Comments on Acer Aspire One's 6-cell is a whole lot cheaper bundled

Is the deal gone now?

Marc

Comments on Acer Aspire One's 6-cell is a whole lot cheaper bundled

Card reader running OS X? Almost top of the heap. I like it's size, and weight, but the build seemed a little flimsy when I got to handle one in the BoxStore (tm). But it has a nice feature set and the price is excellent. It's basically what ASUS tried to do with the 700, but here they got it right.

But I went with an eee1000H instead. A bigger screen and a bigger battery, and a very solid-feeling design. You can get them now for $459. I'm pretty much in love with this machine and I find myself using it several times a day, every day in the house and out. Being able to watch two movies back to back on a single charge with power to spare is really nice.

However, when I saw that Aspire were now shipping a version with a 6-cell battery for $419, it made me look again. --A friend has been eying my 1000H, but I told him that while yes, it's a fantastic machine, it was also a touch heavy for its class and that there were cheaper options. It's now a bit of a toss up. The price gap between it and the Aspire is pretty small now, so the question really becomes one of weight, screen-size, and. . , er, bum-size.

I'll leave it up to him. It's a tough choice, but luckily, I no longer have to make it!

TheQuestion
