Sony Ericsson's hot G705 slider gets real, YouTube video uploads
There it is, Sony Ericsson just went live with its new G705 powerhouse, 3G slider. Just as we heard, it sports a 2.4-inch display with automatic screen rotation courtesy of an accelerometer, WiFi, aGPS with Google Maps for Mobile, 1GB included M2 memory, built-in FM radio, RSS reader, and full HTML browser. It also features a 3.2 megapixel cam that can capture video and then upload directly to YouTube under a new partnership with Google. Also announced in a UMA variant (G705u) -- an SE first -- built exclusive for Orange to bridge GSM and WiFi networks. Headed to the US in Q1 2009.
Update: US version to support GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSUPA 850/1900/2100 with Bluetooth A2DP. Orange model available in its markets in early Q4.

This phone is awesome but for one thing: just 1GB of memory?!?!? What's with that? It should be a 4GB minimum by now!
takashisenke @ Sep 9th 2008 3:36AM
1GB included M2 memory
It's removable memory. The only problem here is that it uses Sony's proprietary format.
who? @ Sep 9th 2008 9:57AM
I know, but still! With all of those features, coming with a mere 1GB is a waste. Either the person will not use any memory card, or they will, and will therefore need a new, bigger, card.
Either way they might as well not include a 1GB card, or give you an option to have a larger card upon purchase. That's what they did when I bought my phone.

Is that a QVGA screen? no thanks.
Frankie @ Sep 9th 2008 9:45AM
QVGA does suck, and depite what others say, you MUST continue with your ranting until companies like HTC and Sony stop producing divices with such sucky resolution. I love my XDA Flame (best device ever in the history of best devices!)

Wonder when its going to be released elsewhere?
Cant wait to get this mofo

OK, it's time for this stupid "slider" fad to end. It saves nothing: If the phone is thick enough to have a keyboard under it, then it saves nothing in thickness over a clamshell phone. And clamshells protect the screen from scratches, since most of these companies haven't noticed that it's possible to use GLASS. If the iPhone can sport a massive glass screen without problem, there's no excuse for the continued use of plastic on these smaller ones.
Seanross @ Sep 9th 2008 3:59AM
Glass is no good, people drop their phones too much. God forbid someone cut themselves on the glass.... lawsuit time.
shane @ Sep 9th 2008 4:44AM
sony ericsson have the hardest screen of any manufacturer....it was developed with kyocera. I put my SE phones in my pocket with keys all the time...not a scratch...my ipod touch is scuffed all over the screen from the same treatment
LondonConsultant @ Sep 9th 2008 5:05AM
It's an N95 in SE clothing...
fairlight @ Sep 9th 2008 6:36AM
clamshells are women phones
)law( @ Sep 9th 2008 3:51AM

full HTML browser on this phone? What hocus-pocus is this??
zephxiii @ Sep 9th 2008 8:46AM
My lowly z750a has a full HTML browser.
mgsrocks1 @ Sep 9th 2008 3:59AM
Damn it! I just got a Sony Ericksson W580i.
Imsaffor @ Sep 9th 2008 11:25AM
I am an admitted Sony fanboy, and even though I'm currently using a Tilt, Sony's latest phones have been drool worthy, this definately stays in that same realm.
I'm hoping to see more phones released by them that utilize the XMB though, this seems like it won't.
fermando @ Sep 9th 2008 4:12AM
Another useless SE phone.
NightBlade @ Sep 9th 2008 5:00AM
Great design!
EmoChicksAreHot.....Seriously @ Sep 9th 2008 2:25PM
I completely agree. It looks incredibly sick.
But it would be soo much better if it had a querty slide out keyboard.
Sigh...if only...
Hellios @ Sep 9th 2008 6:27AM
This phone is exactly like the W760i, except that this one has also has WiFi.
And of course, the software is different, this one has youtube uploads, while w760i has that walkman player UI.
Khael @ Sep 9th 2008 7:03AM
I hate slider phones, touch screen is the only way to go.
gad get @ Sep 9th 2008 7:50AM
Since when are touchscreens and sliders incompatible?
Kei @ Sep 9th 2008 7:29AM
Sadly they've seriously messed up IMO. I used to be a hard core SE fan. Their specs are always lagging and I don't like their 'round' style button design.
SimonRichards @ Sep 9th 2008 9:32AM
Well I bought a w910i a week ago, but damn this looks good!
Marty @ Sep 9th 2008 9:38AM
Got Symbian?
Wolfhero @ Sep 9th 2008 12:35PM
This thing has 1 key flaw as my W910i, that power/earphone plug is STILL at the left edge of the phone. This causes phone to tilt in an angle when you want to watch video on the phone horizontally when placed on any kind of flat surface (ie, while running on threadmill) with earphone plugged in.
And no, bluetooth stereo(A2DP) headset's music quality is still not good enough.
PS, I want AM radio! Maybe it's just me, but if I want to listen to music, I would just listen to my MP3s stored on phone. I would rather listen to radio for news talk programs and most of them are on AM only in my area.
KilgoreTrout @ Sep 9th 2008 1:04PM
Until SE give us the long promised X1 experia it shoud be boycotted.
BTW have you noticed the (lame) pun in the name? SEX1 (experia) / Sexy experience?
Are we to belive it's just a coincidence?
adrian @ Sep 9th 2008 1:19PM
SE do make some good looking phone though.
