Nokia takes S60 3rd edition corporate with Exchange ActiveSync support
43 devices representing some 80 million mobile phone users -- that's the largess of Nokia announcing Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync support on all its S60 3rd edition devices. Mail for Exchange will also be available out-of-the-box in future E-series and N-series devices. That means future phones like the Nokia Tube and existing, high-end, media-centric devices like the venerable N95 and new N96 will now feel just as comfortable in the beige cubicle as you do.

The N95 had this for ages. You just installed it and bingo.
thefiendster @ Sep 10th 2008 2:57AM
good. I can get the N96 now.

N85 FTW!

Yeah this isn't really new, Mail for Exchange has been available for S60 devices for ages. You can already get it for the N95 and most of Nokia's other S60 smartphones.

so the news is that instead of having to click the icon to install the software its pre-installed? err great!

Sorry for a little OT, but how do you guys use Exchange connector when you need to connect from the Internet? Unfortunately, my company policy is to connect via Cisco VPN client before allowing you to connect to Exchange server and I'm having nightmares with "Nokia Mobile VPN" that supposedly supports Cisco VPN endpoint. Anyone else uses that combination?

Yeah, I have gotten the VPN client on my E70 and E61i to connect to a Cisco VPN setup, but it was a pain in the ass. WAY more complicated and failed attempts than should be required. First I had to get to extract the group password from my Universities VPN Client distribution
Then I followed these instructions:

And found this bundle of info helpful:

Also, Engadget why no direct download link:

I had a nightmare trying to use Nokia VPN client to connect to my university's network. Thankfully they also implemented a passworded proxy system because I could not for the life of me figure out or find someone who figured out how to use that with Cisco VPN. All the info I got told me that it is a cinch with a Nokia VPN appliance, but with Cisco it looked like a nightmare.
Notpeter,
If you figured it out please post it on a blog because I can say for fairly certain that you are one of very few people who got it to work with Cisco VPN and many people around the world would be grateful to see your solution. I would switch just to save myself the hassle of changing my connection to the proxied connection.

People, come on, read the release! The point is not just that N-series will have MfE, but that many more devices, like Nokia 6120, that until now did not have the option to install MfE but had to buy RoadSync instead, now do have the option of installing this.

Not really a huge deal since Mail for Exchange has been a free downloadable program for years now. This just makes it easier. Having been using MFE for a while now, I have to say that I really like it.

I was wondering if anybody knew when this new version was out and about, as the current version on the Nokia website still doesn't work with the Nokia 6120...
Thanks
