In case you haven't noticed, today's
a pretty big day for Sling Media. Not monumentally large or anything, but decently sized, we reckon. Of course, if you're a placeshifter and a UIQ user, you may disagree vehemently. Announced today, said company has unveiled a SlingPlayer Mobile version compatible with the UIQ interface on Symbian OS phones from Motorola and Sony Ericsson. For those out of the loop, said app will give Slingbox users the ability to "watch and control their home TV from a network-connected mobile phone." In related news, the freshest
SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 has launched as a public beta, and with it comes a live video buffer, "The Guide," SlingRemote and a bevy of different viewing modes. Take advantage of that broadband connection
while you still can -- get to downloadin'!

sinai @ Sep 10th 2008 7:00PM
ya, old news is old
David F @ Sep 10th 2008 7:38PM
I think it was beta 1. The download on the page is now 2.0 beta 2
MegaZone @ Sep 11th 2008 4:18PM
Well, not *months*, but Public Beta 1 of SP2.0 has been out for a little while. This was the release of Public Beta 2.

When is it going to finally come out for the iPhone?
kccboy2004 @ Sep 10th 2008 7:30PM
This will come out when we are good and ready.
We had scheduled this for July 2007, but we decided that we would tease it out for a couple of years. We know that you made certain assumptions about what the iPhone would have as standard (as in what the rest of the industry had), but we had different ideas. Your assumptions made an ass out of you and you.
On the release list we have:
Sling - 2009 (sometime)
Cut & Paste ( we figured that you would wait till iPhone 4.0)
One last point, we kinda got a little sloppy / careless (read as "negligent") with the version numbers; current release is 0.2 not 2.0. Thanks for buying this stuff anyway. Seriously we never thought anyone wsa stupid enough to buy the iPhone, but then again we did forget what mindless morons there were out there.
Again, thanks for your money.

Hey kccboy2004, I'm pretty sure that Apple has nothing to do with SlingPlayer.
Kiles @ Sep 10th 2008 7:18PM
iphone sling player. cmon.
monterey86 @ Sep 10th 2008 7:24PM
Maybe when the iPhone can support real rtsp streaming. It can only support progressive download, so no live events are possible.
Doc @ Sep 10th 2008 11:19PM
I can watch streaming apple keynotes on the iphone. So why would the sling player be any different?
Squid7085 @ Sep 11th 2008 12:49AM
All I know is that the SlingBox sends out its streaming media with something based on Windows Media I believe, the iPhone obviously doesn't support that. I don't think that the iPhone could be considered to have any technical limitations keeping Sling from coming to the phone. They have already showed us a Proof of Concept, its all on Sling at this point, now when Sling releases it and it gets caught in Apples filter, then you can tell me its Apples fault.

that reflection looks wrong...
Rick V. @ Sep 10th 2008 8:33PM
What about the Blackberry versions....
CP @ Sep 10th 2008 9:57PM
looks like at least the slingbox av got a firmware update as well.
brad @ Sep 10th 2008 11:36PM
haha... "we reckon" ... wonder since no one else commented on it, if i was the only one that caught that little "sling blade" line... most of the geeks on here though probably wouldn't even know of it though since it's name doesn't end in "wars" or "trek"... ha!
Quikboy @ Sep 11th 2008 12:06AM
How about SlingPlayer for Windows Mobile?
MegaZone @ Sep 11th 2008 4:17PM
SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile has been out for a long time now.
Squid7085 @ Sep 11th 2008 12:50AM
I would be happy with a damn Flash viewer. It kinda makes me angry that a company that actually gets revenue is less productive than say "orb" which is free. I can currently watch TV shows in more places using my FREE orb setup than I can with my $150 Sling setup.

allready installed it on my SE G900
