Eye-Fi making wares twice as fast, expanding internationally
Frustrated by somewhat sluggish transfers from your otherwise spectacular Eye-Fi card? Fret not, as the company has just announced a forthcoming update at Photokina that will reportedly enable new and existing Eye-Fi owners to make "the upload of digital photos from camera to computer twice as fast." Also of note, as of October 5th, users can even add features that aren't already included on their card and renew annual services by tapping into the updated Eye-Fi Manager Web application. In related news, the outfit will be pushing its wares to Japan and Canada by the year's end, and in even more related news, Eye-Fi now supports direct photo uploads to Apple's MobileMe and the AdoramaPix service.Read - Eye-Fi getting 2x faster

Hrm
Doug @ Sep 23rd 2008 11:21PM
And yet they still don't support RAW image files.
The Dude @ Sep 23rd 2008 11:50PM
I have a slight suspicion that you're a photographer. I just can't quite put my finger on what tipped me off.

Doesn't RAW support have to be added for every camera model? That's a big undertaking for a small company.
I would be happy if I could get geotagging to work with my camera. That's the main reason I bought the Eye-Fi Explore in the first place. MobileMe upload support is certainly welcome.
Doug @ Sep 24th 2008 12:08AM
Nope. All it has to do is transfer the files. It doesn't have to display them.
Darkroom @ Sep 24th 2008 12:19AM
raw, schmaw... it's come'n to canada, eh!
viewsource @ Sep 24th 2008 12:28AM
I don't care about RAW, but no Ad-Hoc kills this thing. It sits on my desk collecting dust.
CraigJ @ Sep 24th 2008 1:47AM
Yep. No Raw support, no Ad-hoc makes this useless for me.
Lifelion @ Sep 24th 2008 4:28AM
Strongly agree.
And why limiting usage to JPEG anyway?
Let the EyeFi synchronize all the files, RAW, 3gp, avi! No limit!
G. Tom @ Sep 23rd 2008 11:27PM
Increased speed is nice but what about RAWs? It currently only transfers jpgs. :(
scott @ Sep 24th 2008 12:30AM
yeah, it sucks that it doesn't support raw, but from what i've found, most dslr's i've dealt with don't support sd cards.
CraigJ @ Sep 24th 2008 1:47AM
The Nikon D50 does, and I think the 60, 80 as well. not sure about the 90
crand @ Sep 24th 2008 2:40AM
@ scott
Nikon D60? That's what I have since it's my first DSLR.
scott @ Sep 24th 2008 12:49PM
oh, i havent dealt with the nikons as much as canon and olympus...
paradoc @ Sep 23rd 2008 11:46PM
Faster wifi transfers from the card to computer would be welcome addition, but I find the bigger issue for me is that the transfer speed from the camera to the card is too slow. I contacted Eye-Fi and they refuse to release their throughput speed claiming it is proprietary information. But I know with my pocket still/video camera, I get errors if I try and record video on the higher speed settings. Are they improving the recording speed of the card too?
chef @ Sep 24th 2008 2:15AM
I agree - I used this with my D80, and the slow transfer speed slowed down my shooting significantly. As such, I can only recommend this for point and shoot cameras.
konshuss @ Sep 24th 2008 12:27AM
this is good news for commercial industries that use eye-fi such as dentistry where digital xrays can be fairly large.
Lifelion @ Sep 24th 2008 4:30AM
Agree with viewsource: "no Ad-Hoc kills this thing"
edward @ Sep 24th 2008 3:00PM
Yeah RAW and Ad-Hoc! I Really Care about the Ad-Hoc.
itumkhaish @ Sep 24th 2008 5:31AM
That`s great I like IT
