Panasonic bundles 103-inch plasma, Blu-ray player in 3D home theater package
Didn't see anything that particularly suited your fancy at CEDIA? Then feast your eyes on CEATEC. As the Japan-based trade show hastily approaches, out pops a mind-boggling new home theater package from Panasonic. The system will include one of its marvelous 103-inch plasma HDTVs, a Blu-ray player and at least one set of fancy 3D goggles. Hailed as a world's first in some form or fashion, the Full HD 3D package utilizes an undisclosed format "employed by major Hollywood film studios" to "distribute full HD images of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels to each eye via synchronized shutter glasses." Panny is hoping to promote the technology and possibly get a leg up on Samsung (our assumption) by impressing wealthy homeowners and members of the Blu-ray Disc Association. As expected, there's no mention of a price, but rest assured -- you'll be stuck choosing between this and a new BMW.

Look like some retro Run DMC glasses.

The disco ball is making a comeback too, what is up with those glasses?
avester @ Sep 24th 2008 8:17AM
To give out the maximum effective area of viewing?

I think they should go all out and make the glasses with gold trim and fake diamonds....I'm sure it will cost enough that it should come with designer frames
avester @ Sep 24th 2008 8:19AM
If you can afford 103" plasma and a blu-ray player, you can afford your own goddamn set of glasses if you don't like them.
Stop whining.

I really hope this push towards 3D fails. It's nothing more than a gimmick that looks unnatural and distracts you from the movie. It's great as a novelty but I certainly wouldn't like to see it become the norm.

I'll take the Beemer

I'll take the Bimmer without even considering it. A good picture and a great experience can be had for only a few thousand dollars. Asking someone to shell out 5 or even 6 figures for a home theater SYSTEM is ridiculous. Granted, they're catering to a different demographic with systems like these, I'm still not convinced it's worth the money.
Give me a 1080P Projector and a 150" Screen and I'm happy - Oh wait, I already have one... $1500 on ebay for the entire video setup. Add in your PS3, DVD Jukebox and Surround Reciever and call it a day for about $3500 + speakers.

I feel very saddened that so many people are ignorant about the awesomeness of stereo3d and just make fun of the glasses- those most likely have not seen a properly functioning stereoscopic setup (many theaters do them wrong). I use a stereo3d monitor for gaming and am very happy with it and think it id definitely the future.

Wow, what are you blind in one eye? Humans have two eyes and see the world everyday in binocular STEREO vision. What is unnatural is the 2D medium that you are accustom too. True allot of these 3D films are a bit gimmicky in nature, but once filmmakers stop trying to push everything and keep it immersive, then it will be a great thing to behold.

This bundle will cost a bundle.

Modern 3D is most certainly not a gimmick and in my opinion people who think it is have either not seen decent 3D or simply don't appreciate it. 3D adds an immersive quality to a movie that 2D cannot hope to replicate. It's like looking through a window into another world and when it's done properly it is truly stunning. It IS the future of cinema AND home theatre and I for one cannot wait for it. We have HD now and 3D is the last missing piece of the puzzle.
