What's the big deal about plugging your external drive into your PC? It's not like a media device where you might want the PC in one part of the house at a distance from the TV.

But now I get it. This is a product for notebook users. You bring your laptop back home, plop it down anywhere (in range) and it automatically backs up your data. You don't have to remember to plug in to keep your data safe.

In addition, it frees up the often relatively small data storage of SSD based netbooks.

Ed

Comments on Imation's wireless USB Apollo Pro WX external HDD does backups sans wires

Yeah, I think that's exactly right, you'll be able to just plop your laptop down, hopefully on your wireless charging pad too, and it will just back itself up. More importantly, if you're like me and keep your backup drive in a fireproof safebox in your too prone to burst into flames apartment complex, you're one step closer to being able to do it without ever having to reveal where the safe is hidden or mess with opening it. As the article says, all you lack is that pesky AC adapter. Come long life battery powered solid state drive, come.

DrB99

Comments on Imation's wireless USB Apollo Pro WX external HDD does backups sans wires

chances are, if it's in a fireproof box, the box will be thick enough to block the wireless signal from escaping....

bobdobbs
