Nova explodes your brain with the Slider X 600 gaming mouse and OVER Slide pad
If you're having trouble choosing which gaming mouse to sink your teeth into next, here's a newbie to add to the ever growing pile: the Nova Slider X 600. Not surprisingly, it's tethered to a "recommended" mouse pad -- a cornerstone product for this French based company. As for the laser mouse it features "indestructible" super-glide ceramic feet for speed and precision, along with 8 programmable buttons, a gold-plated USB connector, five luminous color options, and a cable that is notably positioned to the side. The 16.5-inch x 11.5-inch "OVER Slide" mouse pad boasts a 12,000 dpi ceramic surface, and promises "zero lag and optimal conditions" for the laser -- you know, way better than that magazine you've been using. The mouse and pad can be had for $99.99 and $39.99 respectively this November.

Why on earth is the cable coming out from the side?
12.000dpi? I use 1600...
My Microsoft Sidewinder and Ulti-Mat do everything just fine for me.
45$ and 5$ respectively.
Nice!
The 12,000 dpi refers to the pad, not the mouse. I'll take my Razer Diamondback 3G + Steelseries 4D (shipped) over this awkward setup anyday.
How on earth do you set the dpi for the ceramic surface...
The cord is on the side? >.
I think its a stupid gimmick to force you to buy their mat for an extra $39.99, I can't imagine using that thing without the mat keeping the wire out of the way.
Well, at least the cord doesn't come out of the bottom.
Cord on the side will create a lot of unnecessary tension and might get in the way with how some people hold their mouse even though it seems to really raise your hand up.
Not to mention the lefties..
But this model is show for righties... and I presume the lefties version would have the cord on the other side...
but I still think it's a bad idea... but I guess/hope they've tested it extensively on prototypes first...
or they made it so it's a gimmick...
I could imagine this being a problem for people with big hands, that go down on the cord and press it into the mousepad... the ceramic "feet" sounds like a nice idea though...
This looks really annoying and cumbersome to use.
Um, yeah, that's where my pinky + right side of my hand go. I can't imagine this being comfortable for anyone with a hand larger than the mouse. Is there some unwritten rule, that if you come out with awesome tech, the first go-around has to have some glaringly horrid flaw that could have been fixed with, oh say, one hour of real world testing?
Even in the product photo the wire looks awkward! They've had to attach it to the mousepad to try and keep it out the way. In normal use that's going to be an even bigger pain.
This is a bunch of snake oil for people that blame their poor skills on their hardware. That color changing thing is for retards who want a blinking mouse (the light on mine comes out on the backside and I can never see it, just the way it's supposed to be). The "indestructible ceramic feet" are ridiculous because usually it doesn't slow you down because they wear off but because they get clogged. I have to remove big pieces of compressed dust every so often from my regular mouse and I can't see special ceramics do anything about that problem. My next question would be: Who's got a desk to fit a mousepad like that? I maybe could but then I would have to at least move my printer and my laptop out of the way. No thanks. I'm fine with wood grain veneer and my old optical mouse (next one with cable again because charging the batteries pisses me off).
You think $99 mouse with $39 pad will make you pwn everyone in multiplayer games? You're wrong, boys and girls. You'll also need $priceless brains for that ;)
PS: I don't know why they keep increasing DPI but it seems to be the same as megapixels, "size matters" even though only a fraction of that size is actually ever used.
Btw I like the mousecord clip, I have a fUnc Surface 1030 and the cord clip is great...
I like the fact it has 8 buttons (programmable?) the more the merrier that way
Price.. not a chance especially for my big hands
Does anyone know if there is a program out there that will actually let you change buttons that are "off limits" by the manufacturer (MS X8..also no left/right on the scroll, want that for leaning THAT is what it was designed for darn it)
MEIST3R: I agree on the rechargeable mice, my wonderful MX1000 wants to carp out right in the middle of a good game (I do like the new idea of replaceable batteries they are now using, always having a spare while charging the old one
For all that doubt the side mouse cord: Have you never had your cord bunch up on you because its at the top? Or had it push back as you try to push forward? Or had the cable wear out over time because the cord wasn't long enough and as you pull back it tries to yank the cord out of the top? Think about it, the side makes sense. When I saw that I was wondering where I could get a mouse with a side cable (preferably not this one since it looks uncomfortable and I can't see the location of the back/forward buttons).
Yeah, it's perfect. Now, because the cord snakes up, over and around the mouse to the opposite side of the cord clip, you can just deal with the cord getting in the way as you make a sudden movement up and left.
Awesome!
Either the image is reversed, or that's a left-handed mouse...
Er, no it isn't...look where the top mouse buttons are. If that was a left-handed mouse, you'd be using your pinky and ring finger to push those. Definitely a rightie...
How will compensate with USB lag and the bus lag? And what's wrong with wireless?
i will in fact be purchasing these, maybe not at first release, but i think it has tremendous potential, the only reservation i have would be the ring finger and pinky grooves, for those of us with sausage fingers
You had me at "ceramic".
I came across this while looking for reviews a while back. Just got one of these mice and i love it, the wire's low enough and far enough back that i can still put my pinky on the mat without it touching the wire and it's just so comfortable to use. The wire coming out of the side is a great innovation, not annoying at all and it hasn't snagged once in 12 hours of play. The ceramic feet are sort off dome shaped and I can't see how any build up could get caught on them, but time will tell :) All in all it's a load of money, but much more comfy and just as responsive as my razer gear - well worth it!!!
