Blackberry Storm dummy hits Verizon store
Well, it's not quite as big as that gigantic promo Bold, but dummies of the Blackberry Storm have started appearing in Verizon stores, and it's looking a lot, uh, more robust than we remember from all those leaks. Specs include an appropriately multicultural photo of happy people, non-functioning buttons, and a list of Verizon talking points. Still no hard release date, but we're guessing something this big can't be contained for much longer.

Is this going to hit before the bold?
I don't understand why AT&T won't just release it already.
DefPo3t @ Sep 29th 2008 10:54PM
July September for 3g iPhone
October and November for Bold
December and Christmas for AT&T
fb @ Sep 29th 2008 11:01PM
Bold is delayed due to problems on AT&T's 3g network, no other reason.
Isaac @ Sep 29th 2008 11:02PM
I'm not trying to be a douche bag but I've learned not to just take peoples word on the internet.
Damn Nigerian kings needing my money.
Can I see some sources about the reasons for the delay?
Bob @ Sep 30th 2008 12:09AM
Isaac, go to Crackberry .com and read New York Hated My BlackBerry Bold. A trusted source in the world of gadget blogging writes about his experiences with an unlocked Rogers BB Bold he was using in NYC on AT&T. No reports of these problems on the Rogers network but big problems on AT&Ts 3G.
Do some searching and you will find all kinds of problems with using 3G on AT&T with more than just the Bold.
AJ in the East Bay @ Sep 29th 2008 10:29PM
Cool. Bring it on!
Cutty @ Sep 29th 2008 10:36PM
It looks like it will hit before the bold... It appears that AT&T don't want to kill the iPhone thunder just yet so they are holding off on releasing the bold...
Chris @ Sep 29th 2008 10:38PM
Need to fix your source, BBerry from crackberry found this dummy model
richard @ Sep 29th 2008 10:45PM
The guy who took these pictures posted on Crackberry that it looks big because he has small hands. He said it feels really great to hold though.

I don't care how dainty his hands are, this thing is massive compared to the Pearl he used as a reference.
Bob @ Sep 30th 2008 12:13AM
Specs have this thing at only about 1mm thicker than an iPhone, otherwise its about the same size. iPhone may feel thinner because it tapers at the edges but the Storm has about the same dimensions.
macserv @ Sep 30th 2008 2:02AM
You make it sound like it's some kind of illusion, but the iPhone feels thinner because it IS a lot thinner at the edges. This makes a huge difference to how it feels both in your hand, and in your pocket. A device that has a *uniform* thickness can hardly be described to have "the same dimensions" in this context.

Ubuntu?
Phillip @ Sep 29th 2008 11:52PM
Just activated a Motorola StarTAC on my Sprint service and it's the best phone i've ever had. I am a long time user of the Palm Treo phones and don't miss them one bit.
Rogue_Genius @ Sep 30th 2008 9:17AM
You did WHAT?!? You read engadget but you're running a StarTAC??
Talk like that will get your internets taken away, mister!
Rogue_Genius @ Sep 29th 2008 10:58PM
Jeebus, that thing looks more like a brickberry than a blackberry. Either that, or somebody has some REALLY small hands...
egloskerry @ Sep 29th 2008 11:06PM
I for one welcome our sentient blackberry overlords.
Jon Nelson @ Sep 30th 2008 2:42AM
FAIL.

someone needs to cut their pinky nail. although ive heard it is used for certain purposes... regardless, guys with long finger nails is gross.
bolezhinkov @ Sep 30th 2008 12:19AM
its totally a coke nail. he's been doing bumps waiting for the thing to come out so he can get his investment life back on track.
berryholmes @ Sep 30th 2008 1:30AM
blackberry blow anyone?
willyboy @ Sep 29th 2008 11:39PM
Dude, that's the photo from the first gen Zune....
El Taco @ Sep 29th 2008 11:38PM
wow, engadget has _almost_ posted half of the posts for this as they did when the iphone was released!
Nilay Patel @ Sep 30th 2008 12:58AM
And yet... it's still not released. We must be totally biased in favor of the Storm, right?
profitablechoy50 @ Sep 30th 2008 9:59AM
OOOHHHHHh!!!!

Amazon.ca has a book set for pre-order that ships on 10/6 for the Blackberry "X". The first feature this book will cover is "Learning to use the new touch-screen"
Due to NDAs either the phone would have to be released before the 6th, the date is wrong, or we are going to see some pissed off people at RIM :-)

Zach @ Sep 29th 2008 11:53PM
however, the US version of the book from Amazon is set to release on 10/27...

How about something actually useful.....
http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/18131-Bold-vs-Storm-vs-iPhone
It's thicker then the iPhone. Other then that they are very similar. And its not what I would call a brick....
Bob @ Sep 30th 2008 12:26AM
Never looked at the dummy phones in stores. I know they aren't working phones with working insides. Are they the real shell of the phone (metal, glass, plastic) or is it all plastic parts? Do the dummy phones have moving parts (click-able buttons, click-able screens) or is it just a plastic shell for show?

Here's a comparison with the iphone 3g (Mark used the old iphone in his comparison)

Looks cool, I dont mind big, bigger is better for screens. I hope the blackberry web browser is alot better than the one that was on the blackberry curve I used for awhile, it was barely better than a wap browser.
Jash Sayani @ Sep 30th 2008 2:39AM
Cool. Will be waiting for the storm...!!
Ryan @ Sep 30th 2008 2:57AM
I really hope this hits the stores soon...I've been holding out on getting a new phone for 5 or 6 months now hoping something new and good would come out...whether its a BB or anything else....so I'm hoping this will be worth the wait
skulldriveshaft @ Sep 30th 2008 3:54AM
now if you had only capitalized the 'D'...
