Media server concept from Toshiba doubles as mega D&D die
Here's another mouth-watering concept on display at CEATEC today: Toshiba's Media Server -- not to be confused with some kind of nefarious explosive device from an early episode of Doctor Who. It uses NFC to download files from your cell phone, which in turn can be displayed on a TV via WirelessHD. But best of all, it's shiny and looks nothing like some of the mundane media servers we've seen in the past, which is reason enough for us to want one, or perhaps a pair to make 2d12. Here's hoping it gets past the concept stage.

And if you get tired of watching TV, you can play soccer!
I gave you a consolidation Rank-Up.
Pfththth. It's not even yellow and glowing and able to power a city. :/ Call me when they get to dodecahydron media centers. Thanks be to Ti!
does that have one of those infinite mirror things on one side?
I can't imagine that trying to occupy the same shelves as some of my other electronics and succeeding. There's a good reason things are box-shaped.
What if everything was shaped like a tetrahedron?
Then we'd have to stack them in piles that were likely to collapse?
Velcro.
I guess I'm trying too hard to think outside the box.
Tetrahedrons = Fun, back in 2005.
Triple Play, FTW!
I would like to see someone fit this in thier moms basment. Better yet I rolled a level 3 thunder but accidently crushed the cat
lmao, I don't know what that means, but it was funny!
*Whips up his Sonic-Screwdriver*
No, but seriously, it good to go away from all those boring MCE boxes :P I really hope something like this gets released to the public, but with GOOD specs :P
Rolling this dice would likely crash the hard drives. Alas, I don't know much about D&D or I'd make a D&D joke. I've wanted to learn how to play for a while, though.
NO! dont!! thats like the borderline of cool geeky and uncool geeky, dont cross that line!
Im not sure if i would readily worship this as the "dodecahedron" from dr who , but good try toshiba. now all you gotta do is make is glow really weirdly with the latest 70s tech.
Is it just me or have they stamped the Red Dwarf logo on the front?
In order to connect to the media center, you must first roll for initiative.
So when do you roll for data recovery?
@kal, I think that would be a fortitude save ;).
Incidentally, my parents have a set of incredible (and immense) giant polyhedral speakers of the same d12-itide that my dad got in the 70s. Everything old is new again, I guess.
Take an Ascetics check. One huh? You are eaten by a bugbear.
Damn Firefox spellchecker and its bad suggestions!
replace ascetics with aesthetics.
GM error!
Cool, but I can imagine morons at work picking it up and going "Hey whats this?". Only to rip the plug out of the side and drop the server due to the resistance of the cable. This would all be done in slow motion to the something by Tchaikovsky.
I'd buy it, but then I'd have to get the matching orange shag rug, the bean bag chairs, some bead curtains, and a lava lamp. I don't want to look silly.
Question: If it looks like a D&D die, am I required to keep in my parents' basement?
I guess I'll just wait for the pulsating glowing orb I can download my consciousness into (vague Star Trek reference).
Wow, If you have ever seen the movie Demon Seed, you would think this is really creepy!
OMG!! that is soo true!! Me thinks it's time to let my laptop "sleep" for the night!!
Zardoz called and he wants his miniature tabernacle back.
Also, fug.
Finally i found a match for my giant d20
too bad it's only twelve-sided...
either way, i still won't be able to roll twenties...
