One program in particular (Energy Technology and the Environment) would be right up Engadget's alley considering Energy Technology is the new Information Technology. Basically, students come into Washington DC and learn about how the federal government "works", they hear speakers from the EPA, The US Green Building Council, NSF, etc. and work together to create a civic action plan. Some of the students have gone on to create second hand clothing stores, working with local homeless shelters, etc. etc. It's just amazing.

http://www.presidentialclassroom.org/our_programs/energy.aspx

Again, a shameless plug, but it would be great if we could get some funds to send a student or two to the program. I'd be happy to have an "Engadget essay" so that we could select a great student.

Just a thought...

Richard Mitchell

Comments on Help Engadget Energize Education in the 2008 DonorsChoose Blogger Challenge

Nice. and I have one: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ which is basically a distributed computing client that utilises unused CPU power to search for radio transmissions that may come from Extra Terrestrial sources. It's pretty cool.

Christy McGrory

Comments on Help Engadget Energize Education in the 2008 DonorsChoose Blogger Challenge

Keep the distributed computing to yourself. This year our funding for schools has gone down. DonorsChoose is making it possible for many of us to fill important needs in our classrooms.

My first request on DonorsChoose was for books about Blacks in the Colonial Era. My students found the information invaluable, thanks to donors like you!

This second time we are requesting a much needed laptop for presentations in my "Laptop Presentations" request.
