But I think one of the great things about Apple's closedness (excuse my made up word) is one of their advantages.<br><br>By closing the doors, they've managed to more adequately support their hardware with their OS.  Sure you can get 3.7 Dell netbooks for that 1 MacBook...  But with the real Mac you know what you're getting.  Good hardware, and an OS that "Just Works".<br><br>One last thing to consider, in 3 years that $1300 MacBook will still be worth good money if it's well taken care of...  How much do you think those 3-4 Dell Mini 9 will be worth? That implied, that I already run slackware; indeed I have for quite some time. The problem is not getting it to run but maintaining the installation in a semi-sane way once it's there. I think if OSX was freely available they wouldn't have installed it. They install it for the challenge. Once they figure out that it's no better than windows and it can't run half the software that windows can they will switch back. The only reason I would want to boot OSX is to check my website rendering.
