Mitsubishi unveils beastly FL6900U 1080p projector
There's nothing lightweight about Mitsubishi's latest beamer, as the burly FL6900U checks in with a man-sized 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 4,000 ANSI lumens, an RS-232 control port, automated zoom / focus and digital keystone correction, and a built-in motion-sensitive anti-theft alarm. It also packs a man-sized price, but hopefully that corporate card can handle another $9,995 when this thing lands later in the month.

A "man-sized price"?
So people are worth ten grand nowadays, huh? I'd wait; give it another month and we'll be on clearance.
Actually, I really want one. I should take out a reverse mortgage to finance this. The market's looking good.
Onitenki @ Oct 5th 2008 9:25PM
um.. Who seriously spends 10 grand if they weren't corportate???
noyp @ Oct 5th 2008 9:49PM
People with money to burn.

I have a projector from 2003 that can do all that without the needless anti-theft systems. Projectors like mine and that are too HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY to get stolen. The ones that get stolen are WIMPY WIMPY WIMPY.

Seriously? You have a large 1080p, 4000 lumen projector from 2003?
What kind is it?
Jack @ Oct 5th 2008 10:05PM
Wait a sec...I think I have to correct myself. It is around from 2003, yes, but I'm pretty sure it upscales itself to a higher resolution, because when I plug my PS3 into it it goes into 1080i or 720i....hm.

How could this beast get stolen? I seriously doubt someone could just slip it into their jacket and walk out without being noticed.
lanosian @ Oct 5th 2008 10:49PM
ever consider a break in?

My spinal spenosis could really use a treatment
roman.kim @ Oct 5th 2008 10:49PM
Expensive.. Yeah, but look at it this way, a $9,995 car would not have anti-theft alarm as standard

"built-in motion-sensitive anti-theft alarm".....What I look for in all my film projectors...
lanosian @ Oct 5th 2008 10:56PM
well at least it will annoys the theft when your $9,995 projector got stolen
elloh7 @ Oct 5th 2008 11:20PM
For 10 grand, you'd think they could have spent a little on the design. You know.. so it dosn't look so... "1995"..

I prefer my gadgets to have the fingerprint-attracting, scratch-magnifying, paint-on-wear-off surface of the 21s century.

$10k for a 1080p projector pushing 4000 lumens is actually a great price. Most projectors in that range cost over 20 grand. 4000 lumens is a big step up from your typical home theater 1500 lumen projector.
WLeiZero @ Oct 6th 2008 1:52AM
I have been holding out on a plasma/LCD HD TV until these become more mass-market ... and for 4000 lumens ... you can measure the screen size in FEET, not INCHES!!! (16 foot screen would very work well)
EPSON also has a 1920x1080 at 1600 lumens for approx $5000 (EMP-TW2000)
mommachicken219 @ Oct 6th 2008 2:07AM
This is surely not like the projector my Paw-Paw ever had.
Mark @ Oct 6th 2008 8:31AM
1.Hello.. the 70s called... they want their projector back.
2. It looks like part of the set from 2001: A Space Odyssey is on ebay!
3. Remember the Ferrari Acer Notebook? Well here's the AMC Gremlin Projector!
British Kalenth @ Nov 11th 2008 4:00PM
Why is no one realizing the most amazing thing about this projector? This will cook a pork chop in less than 10 seconds, or give you a sunburn if you stand directly in front of it... so come on thieves, and get your face on fire!
