Have a really nice one from HP (2710p). I'd prefer one from Apple but they don't make one and are unlikely to in the near future. The problem is that tablets are simply a very niche product. Few people still handwrite and most seem to prefer typing. Sad but true. That leaves a very specialized market ( forms, areas where typing simply is not ideal, such as many scientific areas). It's reached the point that few PC makers call their products tablets. They are convertible laptops.

The real question at this point is whether or not handwriting is still important. Is it still taught in schools more that a few minutes a day? Can you had in handwritten projects?

Perhaps multi-touch inputting will change things but that is still very limited. Interesting though. Would Apple even include a stylus option?

Typing is not appealing for some, but I suspect it's a very small minority.

The Gigabyte product is not available in North America, which is odd and interesting. Seems neat though.

pmcd

pmcd

Comments on Gigabyte M912X hack makes a smarter, cheaper Modbook

neTABertible

whiskey

Comments on Gigabyte M912X hack makes a smarter, cheaper Modbook

I really wish Apple would release something in this form factor (Convertible Tablet/Netbook), or the Samsung Q1 Ultra's form factor. Its called the slate form factor. Most tablets use a Wacom digitizer for pen input (in addition to a passive resistive touchscreen for finger input) and the Wacom digitizers are pressure sensitive. The Modbook referenced in the title of this thread for example is one of those. Fujitsu, MotionComputing, and TabletKiosk also make the same thing.

Unless you're talking about something in the price range of the Gigabyte that is a slate.
