everything's becoming media-centric....wow
Ridgecity @ Oct 9th 2008 1:46AM
not to mention everything is getting Coverflow...
Cody @ Oct 9th 2008 12:12AM
I know some people don't like it, but I actually can't wait. Although, I guess I'll have to wait...unless anybody wants to help me blackmail Microsoft to get them to release it early. :P
Mike @ Oct 9th 2008 3:18AM
Anyone really unexcited about this? From what I have seen, it makes navigating slower, and does not really offer anything new (aside from the game installs).
On my 20GB Premium, it will allow me to install 1 game, big whoop. From what I see, it gives a very marginal increase in speed (10 secs GTA IV bootup time), but takes an hour to install.
Sure there is lots of hype, But I can't see why, they are just copying Sony/Apple/Nintendo..
Cody @ Oct 9th 2008 4:27AM
Sorry but last time I checked Sony/Nintendo don't have 8 person private chat, or the ability to stream Netflix. Come to think of it neither of the other two companies have a marketplace to rival XBL Marketplace...or even a network of users as big as Xbox Live. The only community I can think of bigger than Live's is maybe the WoW community. Get your facts straight before you say they copy everything. Thanks :-)
(I tried posting this earlier but I don't know if it went through...if this double posts sorry.)

I can't wait for this! http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=ournextgame

@Mike "they are just copying Sony/Apple/Nintendo"
lol, how did Apple get thrown in there? So now no matter what anyone does in any industry, it's copying Apple?
Katalistic @ Oct 9th 2008 10:23AM
I am actually excited, and the whole entire experience will be new.....The whole market is based off of ideas and concepts, and when someone comes out with something new, the only thing you can do is copy or improve or youll get left behind.
I believe MS is trying to reach out to a multiple consumers, Wii hearted ones, and I personaly believe that, just because the front of the box looks different that whats inside wont change, the games will be the same and really, how much time do you spend on your Dash?? not much, so will this really matter if your a gamer? Probably not, this is only gonna bring new nubs the scence of a fight that we can curb stomp with pleaseure.
Nonetheless its your Opinion, have at it.
Edward @ Oct 9th 2008 4:00PM
I downloaded the play on media center, and now my ps3 has netflix and hulu, I have both systems.
I was always talking trash about how the ps3 just sits there and collects dust, however for the past month my xbox has not been able to connect to my pc. It used to work exceptionally well....

@Cody: Both Sony and Nintendo are going to have multi-party chat, Nintendo even going the route of room to room chat. As far as a marketplace, Nintendo definitely has more gaming titles though MS has movies and the like. Xbox Live's community is not as large as the Battle.net community nor WoW, and I'd go so far as to say there are other PC gaming communities that are larger...not that any of it really has anything to do with this dashboard update. Having more of something doesn't mean they're innovating.
What people are getting at with the copying accusations are Sony's Home Avatars, Nintendo's Mii's and Channel Dashboard, and Apple's simplified menus that even the Wii is compared to.
ant @ Oct 9th 2008 6:17PM
if it reduces the NOISE of the disc drive, I'll be really really happy! I have an elite (120gb) so i can load up the games i play the most.
JayD-1K @ Oct 9th 2008 7:39PM
@cody,
Sony has 6 person video chat with the PSN. So, MS is trying to catch up to what Sony had when they launched the PS Eye.
zomg0t @ Oct 9th 2008 12:18AM
NUH NUH NUH NUH NUH NUH NUH NUH BATMAN!

zomg0t @ Oct 9th 2008 1:07AM
Indeed I did.
maveric101 @ Oct 9th 2008 1:21AM

maveric101 @ Oct 9th 2008 1:22AM

El Taco @ Oct 11th 2008 12:22AM

lowdef @ Oct 9th 2008 12:22AM

Afraid to waste 60 seconds of your life with us?
lowdef @ Oct 9th 2008 10:29AM

damnit internetz what the hell man
MastrCake @ Oct 9th 2008 12:37AM
WOOT WOO...
Aw, I forgot... my Xbox got stolen. :(
Well, even though I am buying a PS3, I am still an Xbox 360 fanboy at heart. It's just that, when your Xbox gets stolen, and then exactly 1 month later they break in again and steal the rest of your games, you want a fresh start. But at least those bastards left fingerprints!
I'm sorry, you guys prolly don't wanna hear about that. But I will say that this new dashboard looks better (and cleaner) than the current Xbox user interface.
swmarc @ Oct 9th 2008 12:59AM
same thing happened to me. Finger prints and all, I even got a description from a witness...three black guys. Never did see any of me stuff.
MastrCake @ Oct 9th 2008 1:13AM
Hey now, as a (half) black man, lets try to keep the color commentary to a minimum, okay?
But still, I know first hand how rough a loss in the gadget family can be, so I'll cut you some slack.
Yoni @ Oct 9th 2008 3:19AM
I think he was just trying to relate the further disappointment felt after receiving such a needlessly a vegue and unhelpful witness profile.
"Yes, it was any three of 20,000 people within the city. Have fun finding your equipment, gotta go play my Xbo- ...my coffee maker. I love that game. Bye."
Yoni @ Oct 9th 2008 3:43AM
Also, vegue is the new vague. Got to stay hip, right?
Dan @ Oct 9th 2008 12:43AM
Looks like an XMB with photos. Way to be innovative again MS.
Cody @ Oct 9th 2008 12:57AM
Last I checked the XMB goes horizontal...this goes vertical. :P
rkls @ Oct 9th 2008 1:01AM
XMB is just windows media center. MS is just following their own model really.
)ROFL( @ Oct 9th 2008 12:43AM
Do want!
Anon @ Oct 9th 2008 3:07PM
GET!

Wulile @ Oct 9th 2008 1:51AM
I like Microsoft.
Viaono @ Oct 9th 2008 11:51AM
But, I love Microsoft.
ZaxCG2 @ Oct 13th 2008 4:22PM
Microsoft loves our money!
Emophia @ Oct 9th 2008 4:40AM
Besides the 8 person party thing, I couldn't care less about the NXE.
The 8 person party thing is real awesome.
But avatars just lookw wierd, they're not as cute as Miis or as cool as the Home people.
Bjsfreaked @ Oct 9th 2008 6:01AM
Fiver says playstation will change it now XBOX has
Sam Zebian @ Oct 9th 2008 6:19AM
I thought they already said last month it would be in November, right?
GhostDoggy @ Oct 9th 2008 8:02AM
Probably the biggest complaint I hear, both at home and in the office, about Microsoft Office 2007 is that the changes that Microsoft made in basic user functionality was a 10-year step-backwards condition. I have to wonder if this "let's make it different, not better" approach is going to take shape on the dashboard approach.
Steve A. @ Oct 9th 2008 11:19AM
It takes a bit to get used to it, but I'd say 'the ribbon' interface is better & faster for 98% of all functions within the office suite. The most used functions are found with a right click, vs hunting through menus.
Autodesk products are all rolling out ribbon menus this year too. So other companies seem to agree.
Str1ker @ Oct 9th 2008 8:23AM
I don't like it. It looks gay and childish.
But I don't care anyway...cause I don't own an Xbox360.
SweetSauce @ Oct 9th 2008 1:41PM
"I don't like it. It looks gay and childish."
This brings up too many childhood memories?
htd @ Oct 9th 2008 9:47AM
they should allow some free online play for silver membership, now I prefer to buy ps3 version of MUL platform games because of that ,since I have little time to play online but I still like to do so once in a while.
Sly Fox @ Oct 9th 2008 10:35AM
if you can't afford to spend 50 dollars a year on a xbl subscription i suggest you go and mow lawns or get a job of some sorts.
edtorious @ Oct 9th 2008 1:25PM
wow, it's going to be chaos on November 19! I wonder how many red rings of light will be reported on that day. I think i'm going to wait for like a week before I update. lol
Anthony @ Oct 9th 2008 1:18PM
I am excited for this as well. I think it will be pretty sweet however I have a feeling I am going to miss the old dashboard, it's pretty much perfect :P.
