Olympus Mju 1040 Crystal proves that elegance is relative

Olympus is betting that you're the type of person that equates quality and style with crystal-encrusted consumer electronics. If so, it's high time you gave that old Mju 1040 a second look -- the limited-edition Mju 1040 Crystal's pretty much the same 10-megapixel shooter as before, except now it's adorned with ninety-eight Swarovski elements, rendering the camera suitable for black tie events like cotillions and charity balls. Look for it in the UK market for £175 ($303) at the end of October.

Does it make the flash more powerful?
Johan S @ Oct 14th 2008 2:24AM
With that much bling, who needs the flash?
kyle allen @ Oct 14th 2008 2:12AM
yay, now we can photograph all the people around the world starving... in style!

those beads look like that fake shit teen girls put on the back of there cell phones to add style.....
Colin Potter @ Oct 14th 2008 2:28AM
Make that teen girls and THIS adult male... Skull pattern stick on bling is pretty much the quickest way to justify throwing out a phone

That's the funniest thing about Swarovski crystals. Those fake bead things are supposed to look like them, but everyone thinks the real think looks like the fake ones instead of vice versa. It shows just how ridiculous they make things look.

This thing is downright classy considering that normally manufacturers and whatnot completely cover products with these stupid things.
manis404 @ Oct 14th 2008 7:13AM
just plain ridiculous.

Yuck! Waste of resources and money on something that will be obsolete in less than 2 years.

Gluing on plastic beads and crystals on electronics has never been my idea of elegant or luxurious...more like ghettoez and bootylicious. I hate to see perfectly good electronics molested like this.

IF you MUST do this then at least remove some of that redundant text on the case first I say.
Why do they think people need to see the lens specification of pocket cameras at all times anyway? That made a little bit of sense on real cameras where professionals need it sometimes (although they could consult the manual too), but this kind of camera doesn't need that printed on, put it on a sticker so you can remove it easily.

i know they just release the regular (not blinged out) 1040 versions in the U.S. I have only seen black so far but in UK they released red, yellow, black and silver. Does anyone know if they will release anymore colors in the US or are we only stuck with basic black?
