Sharp AQUOS DX series: world's first LCD HDTV with built-in Blu-ray
Tough luck, Mitsubishi and Funai. Big talk is all fine and dandy, but in our world, it's the results that count. Say hello to Sharp's AQUOS DX family, the world's first range of LCD HDTVs to boast internal Blu-ray players. Slated to hit in 26- (LC-26DX1), 32- (LC-32DX1), 37- (LC-37DX1), 42- (LC-42DX1), 46- (LC-46DX1) and 52-inch (LC-52DX1) sizes, the whole lot will come equipped with an integrated HDTV tuner, bottom-mounted speaker and the ability to handle BD flicks sans an external deck. Of note, only the 37-inch through 52-inch sets offer Full HD 1080p resolutions (1,920 x 1,080), as the other two get stuck with "just" 1,366 x 768. Best of all, those in Japan will barely have to wait a month to see these in shops, as the entire crew is destined to ship in late November (in black and white motifs) for around ¥200,000 ($1,963) to ¥500,000 ($4,909) depending on size. As for the rest of the globe? Put on your patience caps.

I believe that's "internal" blu-ray player. the tv looks pregnant.
eiki @ Oct 15th 2008 9:59AM
yes, it spews out mini LCDs, you then sell em on ebay, so the tv pays for itself many times over!!!
Jinto @ Oct 15th 2008 1:41AM
Oh, yea. I am so filled with enthusiasm that they combined a LCDHDTV with Blueray.

zldaphreek @ Oct 15th 2008 2:00AM
looks awesome, but almost 2 grand for the 26 inch? a little too pricey for my taste..

This would be awesome for trade show booths.
Load it up with the presentation on Blu-Ray and send it out with the salesmen.
No cabling etc, required.

Am I the only one who hates integrated junk like this? I like Aquos TV's and all, but do I want to send my TV in for repair when my BluRay player craps out?

I'm pretty sure that last question was a statement not a question?

Lol...wow, that actually makes it more advanced and cutting edge than the new Macbooks!! :)

That's an internal Blu-ray RECORDER, not just a player (hence the high pricetag).

so it can record tv shows to blu-ray as well. o_O

No one in their right mind is going to use a blu-ray recorder on their TV (even if the price of BD-R drops). HD Tivo does a fine job. This is worse than those old TV/VCR combos whose only real market, other than portability, is people who are too noob to hook things up to their TV.

It's just a large bag of hurt...

There's a fine line between 'built-in' and 'sloppily tacked on the back'. At least they didn't jump on board and make this thing with an HD-DVD. I can't imagine the remorse.

I for one want integration. I have a smallish condo and don't like having this and that sitting around. I'll be buying the first LCD-BlueRay combo available in the States. Next, put a DVR into the unit with Trueway please.
dabamf @ Oct 15th 2008 1:25PM
I guess if you're not interested in surround sound...

What's the bloody point in recording a program on BD if the broadcast is not HD to start with?
I want my HTPC/TV screen to have as little integration as possible, not even speakers, ampli and not even tuners, but specially if I were to buy a BD recorder I would want it connected also to HIFI, surround, etc.
In any case my HTPC sports a BD /HD-DVD, player /recorder combo drive and I never managed to use it for anything else than the first try(just to see if it was working) in almost one year I've had it.
In my opinion El Jobo was right about this: BD really is a load of .... what did he call it? Pain ? Pins, Palin?

They would record HD shows onto Blu-Ray. I personally like the integration for space-saving. Although the PS3 does a fine job, this'll be good to. And for the speakers, there should be a Toslink out port on the TV for audio output.

who cares if the 32" and less monitors don't have 1080p. Isn't it a bit overkill?
