The other half of the system is the touch smart software package which adds gestures and touch control in addition to a number of new applications with touch integrated. The software portion will not work on the HP laptops due to the differences in screen sensing today, according to the HP reps I've spoken with. Currently, it also requires Vista 64 to work, so it really limits the software and peripherals available for the system.

I have one of the convertible HP tablets with touchscreen so adding the new software is not much of a stretch for the existing laptop line. I doubt they will use the same screen technology as the desktops since it adds about 1 to 2 MM of depth to the screen. Maybe this is just an adaptation of the software to work with a conventional laptop touchscreen.

jberger

Comments on HP said to launch touchscreen laptop and 10-inch netbook by end of year

so pointless, why the hell do people need touchscreen on a netbook

HP had a 12.1" touchscreen notebook and that was one of the worst notebooks around

novel

Comments on HP said to launch touchscreen laptop and 10-inch netbook by end of year

they just want to say they got to market first(regardless of what Apple currently has up it's sleeve)

BB Sting

Comments on HP said to launch touchscreen laptop and 10-inch netbook by end of year

Touchscreen and just laptop, not a tablet?
