Kodak has already managed to impress with its use of
existing OLED technology, but it looks like the company isn't about to rest on its laurels, and it's now promising that a new OLED material it has developed will make future products even better and more OLED-y. The key to that material, dubbed EK-GD403, is its used of so-called "green dopant" technology which, when used in combination with Kodak's equally mysterious EK-BH109 OLED material, apparently allows for luminous efficiencies greater than 31 cd/A and lifetimes "in excess of 65,000 hours," among other OLED-improving measures. Of course, there's no indication just yet as to when that material may show up in some actual products but, from the sound of things, it doesn't seem like something that's years away.

I'd like to apply some green dopant on myself while watching OLED screens.

Way too much information there, buddy.

I hope this is what we need to get OLEDs into big screen applications (TVs, computer monitors). I first saw an OLED prototype at CES in 2003 and was absolutely amazed at the colors, contrast, and the mind-blowing thinness of the display. I've been waiting ever since then for the day I'd be able to buy a good sized OLED TV.

I've learned not to hold my breath for things like this. We're still waiting for decent current OLED TVs (in price and size), much less the next generation of the technology.

Does anyone else think OLED panels would be great in first class aircraft tv's? Small, lightweight and expensive. It'd be the best market for them until they get bigger/cheaper.
Wwhat @ Oct 25th 2008 7:27AM
Yeah cheney and gates do.
Ogo @ Oct 24th 2008 7:21PM
Samsung is suppose to launch a 14" at CES 2009.

Sony should be outing a 27" in 2009

However the prices will not be for us peasants.

I very much look forward to OLED laptop screens.
..I think most people do. That's just going to be insanely awesome.
MyHeadisFed @ Oct 24th 2008 9:29PM
Green dopant is the best kind of dopant.
iphoney @ Oct 25th 2008 12:56AM
Not too surprising since they did invent OLED itself.
Wwhat @ Oct 25th 2008 11:06AM
Seems odd that there would be need for improving green, I thought we had green well under control by now, goes to show you OLED isn't the same as regular LED I guess.
