Don't let that "finished" rubiks' cube fool you. The steps too build this ergonomic laptop stand are dead simple: 1) bend hangar, b) stop bending hangar. Perhaps, therein lies the genus.
This guy may be a creative and technical genius, but I wonder if he protected his intellectual property rights with a patent on this invention. Unlike Erno Rubik, I bet he's kicking himself now...
The author here needs to find a new job. I won't even get into the subject matter to keep this post short. Wrong use of the word "to" right off the bat, then spells "hanger" wrong. Then just to prove he wasn't the victim of a typo, does it again. My personal favorite though, has got to be the part where he spells "genius" wrong. Engadget, when you're ready for a real article, I'll be waiting.
First you dimwits don't get Thomas's joke.. then, you use it as a chance to make fun of people that (for the most part) speak very good English, albeit with an accent.
Actually I'm referring to the comments, not so much about the "news postings". You know, "he who has not sinned casts the first stone... blah blah". But thanks for pointing it out to me. Sometimes I don't get my own jokes.
He never states that this is the 15.4" model only. When is he going to bring out a 17", or in my case 18.4", version. Just cant find a coat hanger big enough! And I'm probably going to be low ranked for this one but... Will it bend?
"A genus (plural: genera, from Greek: Γένος; Latin genus "descent, family, type, gender") is a low-level taxonomic rank used in the classification of living and fossil organisms. The taxonomic ranks are life, domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species" And you thought he doesn't know spellings.
@Thomas Ricker Making a wimsy attempt at a bad joke and then go around calling people dumb because they don't appreciate it? How dorky are you? If you try to be funny, at least put some wit into it and refrain from insulting people that do not share your taste. It doesn't make you look smart.
I always try to be nice, but a handful of things, among them certain attitudes such as the "0mfg, u dident get mah 1337 jokeh, ur st00hpid!" one, simply set me on fire, when I see editors of renowned science and tech sites display them.

I think I messed up. It's bend hanger then....???
wantonenow @ Oct 24th 2008 6:38AM
Gotta love clank.
Go ahead and vote down for relevancy. Secret Agent Clank will avenge me.
allislost @ Oct 24th 2008 6:47AM
@jared
Let me help you a bit...
A) Bend Hanger
B) Contemplate existence and every single nuance that adds to the immensely complex system of interacting forces.
C) Bend a bit more.
macgregger @ Oct 24th 2008 8:52AM
the spoon- err, i mean hanger isnt really there...
joeyboy @ Oct 24th 2008 6:14AM
"Bend hangar"... Isn't a hangar something where you park your airplanes in? Not that easy to bend, I guess??
Holger @ Oct 24th 2008 6:15AM
hehe yeah, that's why the picture is very misleading and it's not an easy DIY... :P
Chuckles McGee @ Oct 24th 2008 9:53AM
You'd understand if you were a "genus".
Blacksheep @ Oct 24th 2008 10:26AM
Hey you guys, stop being a bunch of "morans"
rock99rock @ Oct 24th 2008 10:26AM
You had me at Chuckles
Jorge @ Oct 24th 2008 11:30AM
Unless you're a hurricane or a tornado.

I dunno, I heard that "The steps *too* build this ergonomic laptop stand are dead simple"
brenda @ Oct 25th 2008 1:53PM
Hey, they just pay these guys to write, not to proofread.
iEye @ Oct 24th 2008 6:20AM
Good Good... you standard wire hanger is about $0.10,
If this was branded Belkin it would probably have a 30,000% mark-up
eggothewaffle @ Oct 24th 2008 8:42AM
Gotta love the certified Apple accessory tax.

I see the spell checker was broken when this article was being written.
Thomas Ricker @ Oct 24th 2008 6:38AM
The misspellings are part of the joke. Get it... dumb guy... geeesh.
Thomas
j_g_puff @ Oct 24th 2008 6:41AM
I defended Ricker's grammar/spelling in the Wii homebrew post, but this is just ridiculous.
At least he spelt 'genus' correctly.
j_g_puff @ Oct 24th 2008 6:42AM
Ah, thanks for clarifying Ricker. Perhaps less subtlety would have been in order?
Thomas Ricker @ Oct 24th 2008 6:44AM
But getting grammar and spelling goons worked up into a tizzy on a gadget blog is half the fun.
Thomas Ricker
j_g_puff @ Oct 24th 2008 6:52AM
You seem to be treating this like a big joke. It's disgusting.
If you don't change your attitude I'll take my custom elsewhere, then you'll be laughing on the other side of you're fase.
Stereotype @ Oct 24th 2008 7:03AM
*in a stage whisper* Its working Ricker!
Ian N @ Oct 24th 2008 8:19AM
Hey guys (or gals); Ricker was the one who wrote it. I think he can speak for himself on why he misspelled it, and he did.
j_g_puff @ Oct 24th 2008 9:20AM
Ian,
Thanks for pointing this out.
j_g_puff.
Salsa Shark @ Oct 24th 2008 9:43AM
So, Thomas, what you're saying is that, like this "hangar", you're also a bit of a tool.
Got it. Insult the readers that you so desperately need. That's called "smart business".
rock99rock @ Oct 24th 2008 10:30AM
Im laughing at all of you. Thanks for starting my day off whith awl of dis nonsense.
waterwagen @ Oct 24th 2008 12:33PM
Besides being funny, this post has accomplished one thing at least.
We now know that Salsa Shark has no sense of humor. Or someone stole his dog this morning.
Stiv @ Oct 24th 2008 1:32PM
Engadget publishes article, forgets spell checker.
Timak @ Oct 30th 2008 10:36PM
Yeah, the misspellings are part of the joke. You're just playing dumb...
I agree with the grammar police this time. It looks like my 7 year old son wrote this article.
ArcticFox @ Oct 24th 2008 6:29AM
Simple and effective but i wouldnt trust a metal coat hanger to hold up my expensive notebook by thin metal already slightly weakened by bending.

engadget has been outsourced to India to cut costs, this is the best we'll get for a long time :/
wantonenow @ Oct 24th 2008 6:43AM
Oh, in that case it's quite good. All the words are in the right order. +2 points to Indian translating services.

Does ANYONE proofreads their stuff at Engadget before they're posted? Ever?
Blondie @ Oct 24th 2008 6:41AM
I hope you did that on purpose.

But I think it was not that bad at all. And anyway, I don't think you can say bad joke, since everyone has his own humor.
