Its only problem is literally that it doesnt extend to the whole phone. <br><br>Microsoft have tried with WM to basically replicate the Windows experience and interface on a phone, but I don't think people want that at all anymore, and it certainly won't work well with touchscreen phones. Heres what they should do:<br><br>- Throw out all the UI they've created for previous versions<br>- Stop trying to make it Windows on a phone<br>- Perhaps rebrand the OS as something fresher, drop the Windows brand even?<br>- Take a look at all their competitors UIs and see whats good about them and whats bad...theres no such thing as 'stealing' in the design world!<br>- Work with your hardware manufacturers more and take a few of their ideas for it too, some of them have done things with WM6 that I would never have believed possible, HTC for instance.<br><br>They've got a strong existing ecosystem to compete with Apple and Android, but they're going to lose the battle fast on usability and 'prettiness'. For a start I hear about issues with WinMo but no real description of what they are.  Now if the article had said "the default UI is rubbish" or "it crashes now and then" I would have agreed, however it's always this non-specific negativity instead.<br><br>Anyway, the default UI is, indeed, rubbish.  Fortunately WinMo has the most configurable UI available so you're not stuck with it - use SPB Shell or one of HTC or Samsung's variants if you want.  Hell, cook you own if you want.  WinMo will let you unlike some fruit based phones or ones that claim to be open source.  You can even strip down the whole OS if that's your bag.  Go on, knock yourself out.<br><br>As for the crashing, well yeah but that's true of every smartphone and WinMo is no worse than the others so we can file that under "so what?".<br><br>I have a Samsung Omnia which runs WinMo 6.1 under Samsung's TouchWiz UI.  My one irritation is that the browser - the superb Opera 9.5 - doesn't support flash on the phone because the ROM has FlashLite 2, not FlashLite 3.  However, I'm installing a custom ROM tomorrow that wil correct this. I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with Vista, but I keep waiting for it to fuck my girlfriend and kick my dog because iDouches won't shut the hell up about it.  <br><br>Same thing with WinMo.  I have news for everyone on this blog: I soft-reset my Diamond every morning.  Not because it needs it, but because it takes a whopping 2 minutes while I brush my teeth.  I've had to soft-reset that phone two other times  (non-scheduled) in over a month, once because of a registry edit (huh? "what's that," says iDouche).  So basically, with a tiny little amount of preventative effort, I get 24x7 reliable usage out of WinMo (less that crappy Sprint signal in the hills).  I used an iPhone once.  It's not alive anymore.  That's all I have to say about that.<br><br>PS.  Does anyone else think it is ironic, even downright hypocritical that Apple put out that PC vs. Mac promo where PC is counting money for advertising?  Really, Apple?  You sure about that?  I can't turn on my goddamn TV without being inundated with irritating iPhone ads featuring Mr. Hand and Mr. Annoying Voice.  Combine that with iPod commercials featuring Ms. Crappy Indie Rock, and holy shit. The Guys at XDA can be thanked for all the cool WinMo skins. The other thing you can do is just hold the x button down to quit the program without it remaining in the background.  I think that is the default.<br><br>The task manager is there because, like Microsoft tends to do, they give you options, like making it like a regular phone or a multi-tasking phone.  They didn't make a nifty task manager, but you can download many task managers to replace it.  SPB comes by default with a better task manager.  There's another one that mimics panels on the X1, where the panels are your running tasks.<br><br><br>Its called choice.
