iPhone 2.2 firmware update available now, Google Street View and plenty more
It's here. Google Street View and over the air Podcast downloads from iTunes. Yup, public transit and walking directions too and the ability to share your location via email. Bug fixes, Safari enhancements, the ability to toggle auto-text correction, and plenty more... just like we heard in the pre-rumor run-up. Now get outta here, your iTunes update awaits.
Update: Added some screenshots of the most notable new features after the break. The Street View implementation seems solid though we miss the compass feature found on T-Mobile's G1. Also, the real-estate saved by moving the Google search field next to the URL field in Mobile Safari is a welcome and obvious change. As to auto-correction, well, that's personal taste. Tipster Vizcaya also noticed that Apple added a new option to rate an App when you delete it from your phone. You can also view multiple screenshots of applications available in the App Store.
Update 2: The other big update, Podcast downloads, works just as you'd hope and should further promote the spontaneous isolation we all crave. A few shots of that added after the break.
[Thanks Gustavo and badburro]

NO GREEK LANGUAGE support. AGAIN !!!
How hard is it to install keyboards for the languages of the countries you are selling your product?!?
Jeff @ Nov 21st 2008 6:21AM
SMS and email load much faster!!! New home button feature is handy too. Two thumbs up.
Juaquin @ Nov 21st 2008 12:35PM
Holy shit Apple, STILL no copy/paste? Do you guys have your heads buried in the sand or you can't figure out how to do it? Because there's some hobbyist coder out there who's already done it for jailbreak devices - give the guy a few APPL shares and get the code if you have to. It's NOT complicated.

focus on the comments, not the links and try to comment on something that matters and actually adds back to the post.
if you don't plan on adding anything to the community, then why are you here?
all you guys ever do is knock on people, but you are the ones screwing it up for everyone else.
we don't need you here or want you here.
if you leave a relevant post, others might also be interested in what your up to as well.

Peru @ Nov 24th 2008 12:19AM
wish they would have put a search option in music like the other ipods got.
Mike @ Nov 25th 2008 1:00AM
The update is pretty sweet. I did notice that instead of saying "no service" it says "searching..." lol.
Funny

Fade2blac @ Nov 21st 2008 12:55AM
I also would like to know!!!
Apple please don't charge me again to update my ipod again, I can't afford to keep doing that!!!
Kyle @ Nov 21st 2008 1:00AM
Downloading for my iPod touch 2G now!
jeremymahoney @ Nov 21st 2008 4:46AM
and its free!
mike @ Nov 21st 2008 7:06AM
eh, of course its free.
It's software.
The iPod/iPhone and Apple iTV are being accounted over a 2 yr span because of continual software updates.
Why is this not more common? Because usually the software REQUIRES more powerful hardware, which is why new iPods kept coming out year after year.
The Zune snuck in when the market was already saturated, and had a high end device that really hasn't seen any hardware changes since its inception. So of course, it can just do full software updates.
As for the $20 update from way back, a) accounting rules were posited as the reason and b) some speculate Apple just did that to test out its pay system for the "App Store" before launch. ;)
SirPasta117 @ Nov 21st 2008 8:36AM
Lol i loved how you dragged the Zune into this even though this is neither a PMP post/zune post/iPod post/ or any other related thing just to share your flawed ideas with the world. Thanks!
Seth @ Nov 21st 2008 11:10AM
Mike:
If you have ever seen the developer reporting manager for the App store, its obvious that app charges were just bootstrapped to the exact same system which charges for music and video. There was no need to run an extra $1M+ in arbitrary charges through the system to 'test it out'. But then again, when you look at some of the launch-day failures of a lot of Apple networked services such as MobileMe and iPhone activation, maybe they did.
The charge for the iPod Touch upgrade was just arbitrary revenue, kind of the like the extra 40%-140% people pay for Apple computers over other manufacturers.
patriotsn1 @ Nov 21st 2008 12:48AM
AWESOME!! Firmware updates!! Tell everyone!!!!!
anantha92 @ Nov 21st 2008 4:05AM
Awesome 300 mb downloads!
nerdtalker @ Nov 21st 2008 12:25PM
iPhone OS is so small, tight, lightweight! It only weighs in at 300 MB! OMG!

Raymond @ Nov 21st 2008 12:49AM
I'll do nothing until the new PwnageTool is released.
tom @ Nov 21st 2008 12:51AM
same here...don't know what kinda surprise will it come up.
Suburb @ Nov 21st 2008 2:49AM
My phone is unlocked for use on T-Mobile thru Pwnage and I updated no problem directly thru itunes. I don't use installer or cydia, so I can't speak to that (though I'd imagine they're gone with the update). Everything is working great otherwise!
Sal @ Nov 21st 2008 12:49AM
Going to have to wait a few days before i update
ubn2 @ Nov 21st 2008 12:50AM
why so late at night? I mean it only 10:49 in az but why? it makes no sense.

vudean @ Nov 21st 2008 10:09AM
I think dumping and brushing your teeth might be the answer... that way, when fecal matter is being spewed the toothbrush is in your mouth and isn't exposed to the fecal matter.
c-los @ Nov 21st 2008 12:52AM
Just in time, i just sold my unlocked g1, updating my iphone nowl.
centinall @ Nov 21st 2008 1:03AM
Just brushed my teeth and about to take a dump. Updating iphone now. Also, dog's name is Frank.
Big Al @ Nov 21st 2008 1:19AM
Dude...you gotta take the dump first, then bush your teeth.
Jae @ Nov 21st 2008 1:27AM
either way fecal matter will end up on your toothbrush ala mythbusters experiment
collegekid13 @ Nov 21st 2008 1:27AM
nope teeth first then dump.
mythbusters taught us bout the six foot bacteria zone and i dont want shit on my teeth
Jae @ Nov 21st 2008 1:30AM
even if you brush your teeth first then take a dump the fecal matter will get on the toothbrush until the next time you brush your teeth/take a dump so its inevitable.
eric @ Nov 21st 2008 1:39AM
I think this may be my proudest moment.
