Isn't there the possibility that Microsoft acquired Danger with something like this in mind?  The acquisition was announced in February, so at a development cycle of 12-18 months, that would take us to mid-2009.  Branding and processors used can and could easily change.  Multiple kinds of platforms -- branding-wise and processor-wise -- could be managed through this overall organization.
