Adtec announces two adorable, tiny projectors

With nearly every company (seriously, basically all of them) rolling out a tiny projector, it's getting pretty hard to stand out from the crowd -- and Adtec's two new MP15A Series projectors don't look like they're going to push the envelope in any way. Specwise, they're going to be nearly identical to the rest of the bunch, with 15 ANSI lumens, a 200:1 contrast ratio, and VGA 640 x 480 resolution, and they'll boast an LED lamp with about a 20,000 hour life. The two models -- the 15AW is white, 15AB is black -- will be available in December and January, respectively, but only in Japan. No word on a possible release in other, pico-starved areas of the globe yet.

Are these projectors that useful. I've never used one but what is the picture like.
They are great in a small conference rooms showing business information that rarely needs extremely high resolution.
NICE
Does it have speakers? One would be convenient to have if you have an Eee, but don't want to carry around a larger monitor all the time. Oh, oh! Pair it with one of the tiny net pc cubes, and it would pwn!
Im working on a Mini-ITX mod with a pico projector built in, with speakers too,
should be good fun, not cheap though
out of the whole bunch of mini projector-wannabes this is probably the one with crappiest specs. Sure it's nice to have a small LED projector and I'm all for that but 15 luments and 640 x 480 resolution is more like a blast from the past. ( all pun intended ) The projector is really unsuitable for business presentations and with a low resolution like that you won't be using it for multimedia either. So what exactly is the target consumer base?
Awww.... I could just eat it up!
Hi Engadged staff.
Bug report: Outpost Firewall Pro blocks that size picture. Or maybe the page it was taken from... don't know, I got [AD] instead of picture. If you used some specific size for it, please avoid using it in the future. Pic from the "read" link works properly.
Thanks.
With all of this Pico-ness, when are we going to get an affordable living room projector? Really, all I ask for is a projector in the same price range as a TV. Is it too much to ask??
Huh? There have been many affordable projectors for less than the cost of a TV for years.
Actually, he is right. This has been a frustration of mine as well. To get anything in native HD resolution and format, you have to pay quite a bit. An example is the Mitsubishi HD8000. 5000 lumens, full 1080p, but still only 1000:1 contrast ratio. Even when compared to the native contrast ratio of most LCD/Plasma display (not the inflated "dynamic" ratio) this is quite low. The price? $15K. I can buy several brighter appearing, higher contrast ratio LCD TV's for that much.
He didn't say anything about native HD. He posted this in response to a pico projector. There are plenty of affordable living room projectors out there. I've had a 720p Hitachi for over a year and it's awesome. Only cost me $600.
I had a 600-lumen projector to use as a TV (before getting a 2000-lumen projector). 600 lumens requires a mostly dark room to see an image larger than a typical CRT, so I would think 15 lumens would be a neat parlor trick, but a pitiful viewing experience.
The blacks you see in a projected image are not black as in an LCD image; they are the ambient light level in the room--just no more light added--so the brights have to be really bright for the blacks to seem black in comparison.
