From what I gathered as an intern at Intel, all code names are things on a map. In fact every year there is someone (maybe a group) that reviews the names and adds them to a list. When a project manager is given a new project, they choose a name off the list. So if a name occurs on a map, then it can be used. More performance per watt, great!, but they really need to make a better chipset than their current 945GME. That silicon chugs out 11watts+, alone, while the Atom 230 uses a mere 3watts. In comparison the AMD 780G chipset, with R660 HD3200 core which allows for some very nice graphics, uses 0.9 watts on idle, and a max of 10 or 11 watts itself.

Intel really needs to step up their game in the chipset market if people want 10hours+ batt life on 6 cell batteries!

Precurse

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

both of the next-gen atoms use a new shrunken chipset

cesium

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

Isnt that what poulsbo is for??

Macdelaney

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

Rumored Microsoft roadmap names next lightweight OS "Seinfeld"

eggothewaffle

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

pictured chip is "82802AB/82802AC Firmware Hub (FWH)"

I don't know what that is, but I now have a datasheet for it.

brokenkeyboard

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

welcome to the infomation age

Oli D

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

It held the bios in circa 1998 pentium 2 mainboards....

I was sort of wondering about the choice of pictures myself.

joelja

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

the mitch hedberg naming institute: you just add an "er" sound to whatever it does
.
what's that do? it freezes things. well thats a freezer.

what's that do? it processes. well thats a processor. i'm going on break.

mitch

Comments on Rumored Intel roadmap names next Atom "Medfield"

I would very much love to get a hold of an Atom SOC dev board...

sbattazz
