Hmm seems like the people staying here would either 1) have their own already or 2) not want to recieve a used kindle to read
I'll be having Jeeves hold mine while I read (The Pet Goat- fascinating). To hold one's own electronics is surely a sign of the lower class encroaching on the well being of society.

Damn! I stayed at the Algonquin last night and all I had was this stinkin' paper book.
Does that mean they are going to put a Kindle in the fire?
This picture contains only two of the Algonquin heavyweights: Dorothy Parker and James Thurber (standing behind her). If you really cared, Engadget, you would find one with George S. Kaufmann, Alexander Woolcott, Robert Benchley, Edna Ferber, Marc Conelly, and Robert Sherwood as well. Or photoshop them in.
I'd have gone for an HP Mini 1000 -- they're just about the same price.

What is wrong with just plain old fashioned books?
I mean Kindle is great if you can read things that small
but I happen to like the feel of a book in my hands.

Last time I stayed at the Algonquin (and I plan to stay there next time I'm in town) I couldn't get a decent Wifi signal in my room. Unlike in Mumbai India or Nairobi Kenya or Rio or Bogotá. Though I will admit the signal was better than the dialup in Zanzibar, which was spotty. So I guess that explains why they want to hand out a device that works with Sprint's cellular network? :-P
The bar was a better place to hang out anyway. The girl-watching was spectacular.
