They don't like WIFI, because it represents a "way out" of ATT. There is, however, a demand for WIFI devices. So they either make them expensive (Bold, 8820) or they subtract a key feature like GPS. If you really really want WIFI, then you can have it. And if you want both WIFI and GPS, you can have it too, just not at the same price as WIFI-only or GPS-only.

Other cellular providers are forever trying to poach customers from ATT, so it makes sense they would offer both WIFI and GPS at good prices. But you might not like their coverage, etc. Everyone is trying to buttonhole their customers.

Jake

Comments on AT&T rolls out BlackBerry Curve 8320 at long last

@Kirk, i'm not talking about iDen, i'm talking about GSM Curves.

@Jake, ATT has nothing to do with it, its all BB's lameness, same goes for the new 8900's lack of UMTS/HSPA.

zephxiii

Comments on AT&T rolls out BlackBerry Curve 8320 at long last

sindsygt men ja ja den er jo ikke så fed som 8900 som kommer snart så kan det jo være lige meget ffs

Orappa

Comments on AT&T rolls out BlackBerry Curve 8320 at long last

these phones seriously blow,I feel sorry for blackberry owners including storm.even wifi won't save this ,antiquated,.

Shugg

Comments on AT&T rolls out BlackBerry Curve 8320 at long last

Over on BGR :

On Dec 16, 2008 @ 3:17 pm, bb214 Said:

the 8320’s were boxed and shipped to Att corporate about 2 to 3 months ago, the phone’s were already paid for. I don’t deal with att directly but im guessing they don’t want to burn potential cash flow so they’re releasing what units they already bought. I can tell you this, that we’re not making anymore 8320’s for them so they’re probably just going to exhaust existing units they already paid for. The 8900 is ready to go awaiting final confirmation by their corporate office, the last ETA i saw was december 22, however that could change until they sell these 8320’s off first. This is something unexpected

On Dec 16, 2008 @ 3:21 pm, bb214 Said:

Im still going to standy by an imminent release of 8900 for ATT, still maybe by the ETA mark that they originally gave us. If AT&T is only selling the 8320 online then that only confirms my information that they’re exhausting supplies, if they launch in retail store then they might be considering delaying the launch of the 8900 by asking us for more 8320 units, however im still optimistic about the 22nd.

Matvey Kats

Comments on AT&T rolls out BlackBerry Curve 8320 at long last

and yet another blackberry.
