Clevo laptop shocker! Scores of new, cryptic model names

We got a good look at the M98xNU a few days ago, and now it seems that one of those crazy kids over at the Notebook Review forums has dropped the dime on some other new Clevo notebook models we might be seeing at CeBIT 2009. Most notably, he names the predecessor to the company's D901C laptop: the D90xF will offer a 17-inch screen (up to 1920 x 1200), and it may be Core i7, though this is not certain (sometimes desktop chips end up in high-end laptops, so it wouldn't be unheard of). Also in this batch are several touchscreen tablets, including the 7-inch TN70xM with an Atom Z series processor and passive cooling, the 8.9-inch T89xM with "rugged" design, and the TN12xT, a 12.1-inch based on the Montevina platform with Intel's GM45 chipset. Additionally, we can look forward to the second quarter of 2009 for the launch of the 10.2-inch M71xL, the 10.1-inch M81xL and the 13.3-inch R13xT. And if that weren't enough, early next year should see the release of the company's widescreen W76x series of laptops with 15.6-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio displays. Not that you'll necessarily see the Clevo name on many of these -- the company is known primarily as an OEM. Still, this is an interesting peek into next year's possible Alienware, Voodoo and Sager machines. And you know what? There's plenty more where that came from -- hit the read link for all the glorious details.

First!!!
That's the first time I've ever done that. It was on my list of things to do before I die. I promise I'll never do it again.
Peter @ Dec 16th 2008 10:42PM
aww, beaten by one minute; I feel sorry for you.

Steve @ Dec 16th 2008 10:45PM
Dangnabbit. Hurry up and post another article Engadget so I can check this of my list. The anticipation is killing me.

Too much gay porn? :P

What else is on your list? Smoking pot? Threesome with Japanese twins?
1234321 @ Dec 16th 2008 10:42PM
the D90xF definitely will be Core i7 cause it's replacing the D901C which has always used desktop processors (currently up to Core2Extreme)
if you want to buy, I'd recommend PCTorque as a reseller

I have ordered about 10 sager (clevo), powerpro and msi notebooks from powernotebooks.com, over the years. I have never had a problem with the sager's and that company has really been helpful. I find that a lot of the new high end laptops listed on engadget have been available for weeks there. This is only useful if you want a desktop replacement that is going to be powerful for 3+ years. We are still using a laptop I bought in 05 (P4 2.4ghz, 2gbRam, discrete ATI vid with 128mb, 15.4screen with 1600x1200 res.)
Clevo brand has been nothing but great for me and our company.
Basic @ Dec 17th 2008 6:27PM
I wouldn't bother with a Sager reseller... they seem to add support pricing and then any support you actually do has to go back to Sager itself.
JL @ Dec 16th 2008 10:43PM
Are those model names or error codes?
Krystalex @ Dec 16th 2008 10:47PM
Am I missing some in-joke here, or is that just a little transposing of letters going on in "cryptic"?
Hitnrun @ Dec 16th 2008 10:51PM
Doesn't look that bad... although if there is indeed i7 inside, they made an oven.
Still my Macbook Pro is crying now, it wants an i7...
Chin-Poh @ Dec 16th 2008 11:18PM
Apple fanboys and their Macbooks are so greedy, they just want everything don't they? :D
Fr0 @ Dec 16th 2008 10:53PM
Seriously... is it too much to ask for a netbook with:
- 10-12" screen, 1280x800 res
- Intel processor
- memory expandable up to 2 gig
- both SSD and HD options
- no touch screen (unless it is multitouch)
- no optical drive

OMG WHAT A SHOCKZORZ
gophn.notebookreview @ Dec 16th 2008 11:17PM
the model numbers are not cryptic at all really.
The small "x" will denote a numeric number which would entail an aesthetic difference (usually color).
all explained in this pic for Clevo model numbering:

Hope this helps,

So glad you guys have switched to reporting on Clevo laptops, rather than posting 100 stories every time Falcon or Voodoo or Sager or someone rebrands one of them.
1234321 @ Dec 16th 2008 11:26PM
+1
Ken @ Dec 17th 2008 2:14PM
I was so gonna say that. 'bout time they started to report on the true pulse of the notebook industry.
Grammar Police @ Dec 16th 2008 11:25PM
Uh... a predecessor comes before, so the D901C would be the predecessor to the new D90xF; not the other way around.
gophn.notebookreview @ Dec 16th 2008 11:27PM
i think that was a grammatical mistake as well.
they should have said "successor" =)
Good_Bytes @ Dec 16th 2008 11:44PM
What I don't like about glossy tings, other than they are reflective and makes it annoying and detracting to use, is that what ever you use to clean it, you can easily scratch the surface. And that is just cleaning, in this case normal usage would destroy the gloss in no time.
iofthestorm @ Dec 17th 2008 1:06AM
It'll be interesting to see what kind of tablet PC clevo makes. If they have a nicely priced one I might be persuaded to ditch my TX2000 in a few years.
DavidWaldock @ Dec 17th 2008 5:08AM
I like the idea of naming the predecessor of a model. Although, to be honest, that information by definition is known, so perhaps naming the successor might be useful?
gophn.notebookreview @ Dec 17th 2008 5:36AM
^^ LOL.
the Grammar Police pointed that out as well.
someone should really change that.
