I don't think anyone would deny that there are more iPod products released than anything else, in fact, I hear Engadget has some sort of Unofficial Apple Weblog because of the large amounts of Apple-related news. Why not pass the little things on to them? (like speakers, cases, headphones, and other iPod accessories)

Considering how deeply we look into things like processor clock speeds, pixel densities, frame rates, etc. of other products, Engadget could do a better job of reporting basic audio specs other than:

"Hey you guys, you can plug your iPod into it! And it hangs on the wall!"

On a side note, given the brazillian iPod docks that do exist and also act as redbook transports, I'd really like to see the sampling rate on the player as well. It'd be really spiffy if it actually could read SACD's DSD encoding. With the huge majority of universal DVD players already being SACD capable, it's not like there's a shortage of pick-ups or processors for the manufacturers to put into their products.

Maybe the manus. just assume if you're listening to an iPod (or any compressed music device), then you don't really care about sound quality anyway.

Then it would be much easier which of these are kind-of-crappy, which are utter crap, and those which are actually worth owning.

A good example of the latter is the Wadia Digital 170i Transport, which is the only iPod dock I know of that can bypass the iPod's internal DAC (generally regarded as utter crap).
