Wireless keyboard / controller / remote control for PS3 could make your day / week / month

We've seen some goofy looking PS3 accessories -- including Sony's recent Wireless Keypad for the PS3 -- but this one looks like a little bit of crazy mixed with a dab of mediocrity. A product of unknown make, the creatively dubbed "PS3 3-in-1 Wireless keyboard controller remote" certainly looks like it could function in a mind-blowingly awesome fashion -- though we haven't yet gotten our hands on an actual unit yet, so we can't say for sure. It's available now for an inviting $28.52.

Dodgy.

Hey Tivo, are you paying attention? This is a facsimile (all be it a poor one) of just what is needed as a remote for any upcoming Series X HD boxes. Those YouTube searches are murder with the existing remote. Now get to work!
xValentine @ Dec 30th 2008 12:31PM
Wow.
Are those analog sticks in the keyboard ?
Lars @ Dec 30th 2008 1:18PM
Yeah, brilliant. I love the idea of remote & keyboard together. Unfortunately though, for this price it ain't gonna be quality, nor bluetooth.
Flashpoint @ Dec 30th 2008 4:03PM
absolutely fkin incredible.
2 ANALOG STICKS on a REMOTE CONTROL.... but, just one on the PSP?
fuzzy kittens @ Jan 8th 2009 6:35PM
@ Flashpoint
I wondered when will I read flashpoint's rant about the PSP's lack of a second analog stick again, seeing this picture I knew that it would be here
Cody @ Dec 30th 2008 12:33PM
Some of the product reviews on the buy page sound like they were paid for..."You'll spend hours playing with it!" I'll spend hours playing with a keyboard/remote/controller....yeah....
tom @ Dec 30th 2008 12:50PM
I will spend hours "looking for" it around my house. My dog is known to move around small things that he thinks looks interesting.
I would stick to my full size keyboard for typing comfort.
Soa @ Dec 30th 2008 12:33PM
It's gona be a good idea for PS3 pocker game and Sony PS3 Home game
Larry @ Dec 30th 2008 12:40PM
If the keyboard slides in that would be dope. But i still don't see myself buying it.
Danny F. @ Dec 30th 2008 12:39PM
Would definitely like to hack it for use on a Media PC
tom @ Dec 30th 2008 12:47PM
"Hacking" sounds overrated. This device works on bluetooth anyway, all you need is a compatible driver.
Danny F. @ Dec 30th 2008 1:13PM
Forgot about the Bluetooth so your right. Thinking of taking the plunge but don't see myself using this on any games for the PS3, not even the Home client.
ack154 @ Dec 30th 2008 12:40PM
I'll stick with my Blu-Wave and Harmony, thanks.
Rob @ Dec 30th 2008 12:43PM
The current options for something like this are pretty small. You could use the Logitech DiNovo Mini which runs at 130 bucks, plus the sony blu ray remote for another 15. So if this can essentially do those things combined for 28 bucks and not break the instant you get your hands on it, well then I'd say it's pretty sweet.
Kenneth @ Dec 30th 2008 12:43PM
The reviews sound like they've been translated....very poorly

Works great and very cheaper.Once I was landing this website , I didn't want to get down ! I wish I can carry all products in breast and take them home!
I still want one though, regardless of the sketchiness
The Number 1 Cubs Fan @ Dec 30th 2008 3:37PM
I wish my girlfriend could carry products in her breasts...
Looks pretty good for Home.
Ken J @ Dec 30th 2008 6:16PM
best product reviews evar!!
chefgon_ign @ Dec 30th 2008 12:46PM
If it's bluetooth, then they might be on to something. I'm willing to bet it's all IR, though, and IR game controllers are so 90's (and 80's).
Jeff @ Dec 30th 2008 12:50PM
IR would be hilarious. You'd have to type while sitting perpendicular to your TV.
T Hom @ Dec 30th 2008 1:49PM
haha imagining someone doing that is hilarious...
Nytrojen @ Dec 30th 2008 6:42PM
Curse my parallelism!!
John @ Dec 30th 2008 6:43PM
i'm pretty sure the PS3 has no IR, so that would force it to be bluetooth.
jason @ Dec 30th 2008 10:36PM
Or it's wired and they're hiding it... I wouldn't put it past them. Jerks.
ijyt @ Dec 30th 2008 12:58PM
This looks awesome, and I want one.
Rishard @ Dec 30th 2008 12:59PM
If this thing isn't backlit its an epic failure. I would pay probably twice as much at least for one of these that is backlit.
Bayard @ Dec 30th 2008 1:02PM
a windows media pc remote like this would be awesome. mouse action, keyboard and media pc control rolled up into one small unit. If you have a couch with a fridge and toaster oven built in the only reason to ever get would be to go to the....
and... to the comment about having to type perpendicular to the unit... never used a good IR remote before, eh?
Chris @ Dec 30th 2008 1:32PM
Dude... I totally agree with you... Sony, Microsoft, Logitech, etc. - you should be looking into this design! It is much needed... I would pick this one up in a heart beat if it didn't look so cheap. (would also like Bluetooth too) Unfortunately, if Sony did make this it would cost $75 or so.
Joe @ Dec 30th 2008 3:23PM
"Unfortunately, if Sony did make this it would cost $75 or so. "
If Sony made it, they would charge $200 for it, and it would have a major design flaw like you can't turn it off while watching a movie and it drains the battery.
chefgon_ign @ Dec 30th 2008 4:13PM
I'm not convinced that this offers anything over a regular wireless keyboard with a built in trackball for HTPC use. Would you really want your keyboard to convert into a hilariously oversized remote control? I'd rather just have the remote control features built into the keyboard form factor and leave the whole goofy transformer thing out of it.
mark @ Mar 25th 2009 10:58PM
logitech has something close its called the dinovo mini but it costs $120-$200
If there is a decent bluetooth HID interface that lets all the buttons work it would be great, I assume you could program it with glovepie as long as it interfaces as an HID over bluetooth but who knows what will happen.
Al2x @ Dec 30th 2008 1:07PM
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the analogs are probably nubs similar to the PSP's, how would they be able to fit jutting out joysti(q)cks into a sliding remote, unless the thing is 2 inches thick.
htd @ Dec 30th 2008 1:13PM
the site seems to be hammered right now, I saw the same thing on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/3-IN-1-Wireless-Remote-Controller-Keyboard-Sony-PS3-PS_W0QQitemZ160307317757QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Accessories?hash=item160307317757
it looks like a bluetooth device.
htd @ Dec 30th 2008 1:14PM
never mind, from the description, it's not bluetooth:
Charger Stand: It is also a receiver. You MUST connect it with your PS3 when you are using this controller.
chefgon_ign @ Dec 30th 2008 4:15PM
Sounds like proprietary RF to me.
npChaos @ Dec 30th 2008 9:50PM
Warning
* Do not leave this product under strong sunlight directly.
* Do not throw the product into fire.
There goes my plan of setting it only fire with a magnifying glass...
GregH @ Dec 30th 2008 1:13PM
If this thing is designed well (unlikely), this would be a great option for those who don't do a ton of typing on their PS3.
I would guess/hope that the keyboard slides behind the remote, given the contours at the top and bottom of the remote. I would just hope that it is not brick-like in depth (unlikely).
Troy Powers @ Dec 30th 2008 1:17PM
So, does the keyboard slide into the remote?
I've already got the PS3 remote, but I would buy this and just try to sell the remote I've got. Typing messages using the on-screen keyboard is really inconvenient.
But, this doesn't have all the fancy blu-ray buttons my PS3 remote has. That's a minus.
aggrazel @ Dec 30th 2008 1:21PM
PS3 ... meh ... but I'd *LOVE* something like this for my Vista Media Center HTPC.
seantpayne @ Dec 30th 2008 1:30PM
Might actually be legit. Anybody know German? Found this YouTube video of somebody using it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6ikPcr3urA
Snake_In_A_Can @ Dec 30th 2008 8:00PM
From the way it looks like, it's an RF wireless controller.
Hafk @ Dec 30th 2008 1:56PM
They should have removed the controller portion and have the keyboard take up the entire back half, Using a controller the way it is set up on the remote just doesnt seem useful or comfortable.
Lou @ Dec 30th 2008 2:09PM
everyone get off the site if your just looking. I'm trying to order one :P LOL
Game_playa @ Dec 30th 2008 2:38PM
I'm going to get one! For my new Ps3 and since it's blue tooth it is bound to work with PC anyway
chefgon_ign @ Dec 30th 2008 4:17PM
It's not bluetooth.
The Number 1 Cubs Fan @ Dec 30th 2008 3:41PM
But will it blend?
flux.quantum @ Dec 30th 2008 5:00PM
i bought this remote 4-5 weeks ago, as i was looking for a bluetooth keyboard with touchpad... the shop i was didn´t have one, but this 3in1.. and i must say that it fits my needs very good.. a bluetooth keyboard would have been too large for the seldom use i have so this is really a better optoin on my coffe-table! its about 1´ thick and slides centered.. its not very usable on a pc - the mouse isnt functional.. its no BT but radio and requires the dockingstation that is also for loading the built in battery.. the analog sticks do not feel quite as "nice" as the psp ones but its a nice to have spare controller..
This is nothing for hardcore uses e.g. typing larger texts or playing longer times or accesing BR options directly... its perfect for the seldom use - just watch a movie and press the pause button and don´t think which one it is.. browse the internet and type a quick mail... have a 3rd or 4th controller which you would need sometimes...
for 28dollars this is a no-brainer... i paid 49euros and it was a better decision than ordering a large and even unhandy (for couch use) keyboard for 80euros...
dALE @ Jan 1st 2009 2:06PM
Thank you for actually having something worth reading to say about the device. I am looking for exactly what you described.
John Cavanagh @ Dec 30th 2008 5:39PM
Or even your year?
Sorry I had to throw that out there.
singhy44 @ Dec 30th 2008 6:20PM
Build it Sony, build it! As one of the first comments said, it will be poor quality, it needs some Sony build quality, but a reasonable price. Or maybe Apple should make it...
