Yep, there's a
Macworld keynote going on this morning -- as usual, the Apple Store just went down. That's not all Apple's web monkeys have been up to this morning, though: the company's Downloads page now lists "iWork '09," which doesn't
quite exist yet. We'll see what Philly Schills has to say about that -- we're also hearing there might be some iPhone tethering news coming. Keep it locked right here! iWork screencap after the break.
[Thanks, Jakob]

How can it be a top download if... no one has downloaded it yet?
ArcticFox @ Jan 6th 2009 10:22AM
Because it was renamed from iWork to iWork 09 just before the store went down.
musback @ Jan 6th 2009 10:23AM
Makes you feel like you are running behind on MILLIONS of other users immediately... Must... Download... To... Keep... Up ... Can't... Resist...
STINK @ Jan 6th 2009 10:33AM
more like iDontWork if you can't download it
KarlW @ Jan 6th 2009 10:37AM
Phew, at least we have some confirmation on iWork 09!
Looking forward to it. Much better than Office:Mac, but not as good as Office on Windows. If Pages had an equation editor, I'd delete Office 2008 from my Mac in a flash.
Ashaw @ Jan 6th 2009 11:11AM
TexLive contains a program called LaTeXitT that fullfills this purpose.
b @ Jan 6th 2009 10:19AM
Makes me wonder how the "Top Downloads" are actually calculated. Maybe it should say "Featured Downloads."
Xoyuji @ Jan 6th 2009 10:31AM
Its easy how they calculate this Apple products first throw in one non apple product then more Apple products then everybody else. I doubt quicktime is the second highest download unless they calculating also when it comes with itunes and other software.
Frankenstein Black @ Jan 6th 2009 10:20AM
MEH!
---------
Flame ON!
MadMike @ Jan 6th 2009 10:56AM
OMFG ARE YOU NOT LIKE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT APPLE PRODUCTS TODAY?!?!?! Steve Jobs is going to haunt your nightmares! REPENT and purchase an overpriced Macbook Pro, NOW!
Hehe. I'm actually with you on the iWork. I prefer OpenOffice.
I am however interested in what they do with the 17" MBP and if they come out with a 30" version of that LED backlit LCD with the MB/MBP charging cable.
kal326 @ Jan 6th 2009 11:04AM
Meh isn't really how I would describe it. Engadget's Macworld coverage reminds me more of this.

Definitely a twitter shitter.....
Nathan @ Jan 6th 2009 10:20AM
Talk about Apple's freedom to decide what to put as a Top Download...
Oh well, since we ALL (I hope) know it's still NOT out there, we shall see what the Keynote will bring us.
OMGizzle! @ Jan 6th 2009 10:22AM
i'd be more excited about iSlack '09. or iRelax '09.
Josh Ladella @ Jan 6th 2009 10:46AM
iSee what you did there.
Josh Ladella @ Jan 6th 2009 10:47AM
iSee what you did there.
Aaron @ Jan 6th 2009 10:22AM
iPhone 4G? ;)
Xoyuji @ Jan 6th 2009 10:29AM
That wont be out no time soon, has the LTE specs even been finalized.
Josh Ladella @ Jan 6th 2009 10:46AM
GRR! that was supposed to be @ OMGizzle!
scjessey @ Jan 6th 2009 10:22AM
It's absurd that a company like Apple has to take their entire online store down just to perform a few updates. I am convinced it is done deliberately to "build anticipation" for the new products, rather than any technical reason.
Chris Elam @ Jan 6th 2009 10:27AM
Exactly why they do it.
ljm @ Jan 6th 2009 10:30AM
you sir, are as sharp as a bowling ball
tony @ Jan 6th 2009 10:30AM
And Engadget bites every time :)
Gordy @ Jan 6th 2009 10:30AM
Thanks for joining us, scjessey.
sandmanfvrga @ Jan 6th 2009 10:39AM
ljm, he is right. You shouldn't have to bring your entire online infrastructure down to do one thing. Should be modular. Apple just does this to build suspense.
From My Cube @ Jan 6th 2009 10:46AM
no shit, thats like saying companies advertise to help spread the word about their product
scjessey @ Jan 6th 2009 1:24PM
@Gordy:
I hope by "joining us", you don't mean to suggest that I have purchased (or intend to purchase) anything from Apple? That would not be the case, I can assure you. I like to control my own destiny, rather than have it dictated by Steve Jobs and his overpriced slickware.
Brian B @ Jan 6th 2009 10:24AM
It drives me absolutely insane that Apple still hasn't fixed the HTML on their placeholder page. For YEARS they've had that post it note image in there and they're incorrectly skewing it by putting a width in the HTML. Sigh.
AMiSH PiRATE @ Jan 6th 2009 10:46AM
My frustrations exactly, Brian B! With shoddy HTML coding like that, I think we can expect Apple to fold any day now.
MacDave @ Jan 6th 2009 11:03AM
Thanks for the notice, sharpEye! Never noticed that. Will be funny to see for how many years it will stay like this!
Xoyuji @ Jan 6th 2009 10:23AM
Maybe there making iWork free and that's why its on the download page, highly doubt it but its a possibility
Shelbz @ Jan 6th 2009 1:00PM
Seriously why the fuck is this "news?"
The headline should read "Apple still has to take entire store offline to update products, has yet to upgrade to better e-commerce server"
I'm an Apple user but damn this gets annoying.
Bryan @ Jan 6th 2009 10:29AM
If they only took down the pages to which items would be updated, there wouldn't be much of a surprise, no?
The suspense is killing me!
d0mth0ma5 @ Jan 6th 2009 10:35AM
Good point.
sandmanfvrga @ Jan 6th 2009 10:29AM
*Voice of the Joker* And here we go........
I like the keynotes, I hope something good comes from this. A GOOD Mac Mini that is affordable, would be something I would save for. This will be interesting with out Steve.
pickleman77 @ Jan 6th 2009 10:31AM
So?
Eddy Munn @ Jan 6th 2009 10:42AM
It says iWorks 09 is in the top downloads, because it uses the downloads listing from iWorks 08. =]

I'm going to be depressed if I dont hear about copy/paste or push today. More about copy/paste, but come on, push was supposed to be out a LONG time ago

Jorvay @ Jan 6th 2009 10:50AM
Good think I bought my three new Mac Minis and copies of iWork for each before the online store went down. Phew! That was a close one, eh?
Scott @ Jan 6th 2009 10:56AM
mery good think.
Mike @ Jan 6th 2009 11:32AM
It's good luck you just bought out of date software? ;)

That sir, was fantastic. Thanks for the laugh. :)
Liam @ Jan 6th 2009 10:52AM
How come there has been no mention of a 32GB iPhone? Surely that is on the cards?
