They were the first to bring out sub-one-inch, 9mm thick plasma TVs with their "PROJECT KURO" which was supposed to be released in 2008. Why they didn't release it is a mystery to me, but it would have been the one thing that put Pioneers awesome TVs in the public spot light, the one thing that many in the general public would have paid a nice premium for, it was the one thing that could have saved Pioneer's own production lines, and their bottom line.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/08/pioneer-isnt-abandoning-kuro-plasma-expects-same-quality-panel/
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/pioneers-project-kuro-the-9mm-thick-infinite-contrast-50-inch/

I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY

Comments on Hands-on with Panasonic's 0.33-inch thick Neo PDP Eco plasma

with their "PROJECT KURO" which was supposed to be released in 2008.

Those displays were never supposed to come out in 2008. That is why they were call PROJECT kuro and labeled "Advance design CONCEPT" as seen in your first link. They were showing the goals of pioneer, and the future of next generation plasmas. None of the Project Kuro designs were capable of being manufactured on a large scale that year. The infinite black project kuro would have been released this year at best, and the sub on inch plasma most likely had a 2010 release date.

Tmoney

Comments on Hands-on with Panasonic's 0.33-inch thick Neo PDP Eco plasma

Wow thats awesome, but how many iPhones long is it?
