A definite highlight of
iriver's CES booth was the
P7 PMP and of course we had to get up close and personal with it. The 4.3-inch PMP was chillin' in a docking station among the other P series devices, and we managed to grab some snaps. Just like the WAVE-HOME
we caught before it, the interface seemed super smooth. The UI made the most of that expansive (and gorgeous) screen, and the FM tuner seemed to do its job. We got a walkthrough of the device on video after the break, and don't forget to check out the gallery below that shows the device in all its "in the wild" glory.

Looks very boring.

i think this thing looks pretty cool. its got a HUGE screen. i would really like to see what kind of storage it has. could even be a competitor to the touch....

I'm interested to see if they can 1-up the iPod Touch by including a removable battery.
cubanresourceful @ Jan 8th 2009 6:25PM
Looks awesome! I wish that it had 32GBs of storage, and an SDHC slot. Why would they go with microSDHC? That limits capacity to half of SDHCs, which is 32GBs right now. Though, maybe in the future, it will support microSDXC. That would be awesome. :P

Will someone make a PMP like a itouch but with a 80GB HD. I want at least 64GB but that is going to be a while. This is a HUGE gap Apple is leaving open for some one to eat their cake.
cesium @ Jan 8th 2009 6:40PM
Make that 120+ and I'd buy my first iPod in years

Like the Archos?

Or the Cowon Q5. Pretty much a mini computer though.
Verythrax @ Jan 8th 2009 6:51PM
That's exactly what i'm looking for! I want a PMP dedicated for video, but I don't stand for anything less than 4.3in (PSP screen size)
It rocks!
Wwhat @ Jan 8th 2009 6:55PM
Seems a bit sluggish, and squarish, but the people are still dazzled by the color white (I know, it isn't a color) it seems.
andyyankees9 @ Jan 8th 2009 8:51PM
I agree the loading times seem very slow
nzo @ Jan 8th 2009 8:48PM
Yea it looks cool, nice screen etc, but the (flash?) interface seems slow, especially that picture scrolling. I'd kill myself if it was that slow to interact with a lot of photos. Wonder what kind of codecs it supports.
rudy @ Jan 8th 2009 8:21PM
Any reason why compaines are putting 4.3 inch screens with only 480x272 resolution? Is 800x480 that much more expensive?
On to the player, Wonder what it does that will differentiate from the cowon o2?
Is it cheaper? bigger hd? more hd support? ie MKV h.264?

No Wi-Fi, choppy UI, doesn't seem to fit in your pocket, and sure as hell cant call anywhere...I think iriver is starting to lose it - I mean, radio isn't as exciting as it was in 1936.
Wwhat @ Jan 9th 2009 12:51PM
Haha, I like the 1936 radio remark, hits it right on the nose.
I noticed that that's what they use as a feature for the very cheapest of cheap cellphones of $12 too, 'with radio!'
al @ Jan 9th 2009 9:19PM
iriver... my old friend.. you disappoint me again
Dignan17 @ Jan 11th 2009 10:27AM
Why are none of Engadget's videos working for me? Is it just me? I've been trying to watch all these CES videos but all of them are stuck on "loading video information." I can't imagine there's huge demand for these videos at 10am Sunday either...
steve_somers @ Feb 22nd 2009 11:48AM
This looks OK but why on earth not put a WiFi chip in it? It would add at most $20 to their unit production costs and make it a much better gadget.
Miguel @ Mar 16th 2009 7:21AM
What is to be excited about this? It looks bulky and the interface is really slugish. People really seem desperate to find an underdog to praise.
jahcriado @ Mar 16th 2009 2:34PM
Very pretty & cool but no wi-fi & prolly no browser makes me a sad panda...
Winston @ Mar 22nd 2009 11:08AM
No wifi? Forget it.
