I've read some of their reviews and when I see the products in person, or worse purchase a product they rave over... I find so many things wrong with their review. I hate the fact they always seem very bias to Dell, on everything. They have always preferred Dell displays to others. Even when Gateway had an amazing screen, even though Samsung consistently has the best screens, CNET always prefers a Dell. In the earlier post it said this monitor will be 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angles and a 5-millisecond response time. There are quite a few monitors with a 20,000:1 contrast and a 2ms response. So how does this one outperform?

I'm really tired of seeing "professional" sites like CNET say something is the best to find their review faulty and they don't even make comparisons correctly. This is not the best 22" monitor as far as the facts go. I haven't seen it yet, but judging by the numbers... it's not. I mean viewing angles? How many of you spend a lot of time not directly looking at your monitor? That's not a talking point. Is this even LED? No? Then I'm far from impressed. I'll wait for the stuff at CES to come out.

I could say things like "this is the best taco I've ever had", that doesn't make it the best in the world.

protozoider

Comments on

> This is not the best 22" monitor as far as the facts go.

Clearly you haven't compared TN and IPS panels. I've used quite a variety of monitors at work. I actually have to agree with Cnet being biased toward dell monitors. I've had the best experience with them in the past. Most monitors lose their brightness relatively quickly. The Dell monitors, not all of them but most, have the best reputation for holding up IMO, from the ones I've tried.
I haven't had an BenQ, or a lot of less main stream brands in house here, but have had a few of just about everything else. The Dell monitors have held up the best with keeping color accuracy over heavy use, as well as brightness. As far as response time, I don't play games, and the animations we do aren't currenly higher than 30fps, so unless it's terribly slow I haven't had any (although we don't buy extremely cheap monitors either) real problems with that. You'd have to talk to people working with 60fps to tell you if they see any blur/ghosting.
The worst I've seen here? HP. Every HP monitor I've had gets severe burn on all the edges and many of the screens end up getting strange spots. They also lose their brightness Terribly fast. I currently have a couple hp 2035's (i know, they are old) which Should have 250 brightness, but one will only reach about 100, the other about 130. For the most accurate colors I find the monitors don't actually do all that well past 200 anyway, but I'd like to be able to reach somewhere around there consistantly throughout their life.

But best 22inch they've done? i doubt that. That's really not that great of a monitor for 300usd. Dell has had better that do 1920x1200, and some that do 1920x1080 if you prefer widescreen. I use it primarily as a monitor so I'd rather take the extra pixels.

Andy Engelkemier

Comments on

Those monitors with 2ms response times have those because they use TN panels. 20,000:1 contrast ratio is a lie plain and simple, using tricks like dynamic contrast to simulate true deep contrast.

This Dell is the best 22in because it uses an IPS panel, meaning great viewing angles resulting in color consistency virtually from anywhere you could possibly view the monitor from. It doesn't have HDMI and doesn't do full 1080p, some others do. The price will probably exceed some 30" monitors in the similar spec area. I don't really see the huge difference in IPS and TN monitors, even though I spend most of my day on computers. Sure they look a little nicer but not enough to be worth 4 times more money. If it's not 1920x1200, it's a bit outdated. That's robbing you of some pixels. I would like a new monitor, but one of the things I want it for is to hook up my game systems too. That includes a Wii (16:9), Gamecube (16:9 and 4:3) and N64 (4:3). I know I would have to use a VGA box for this and I have one in mind that converts component to VGA. For the N64 I already have a box that goes straight from Gamecube/N64 output to VGA. Anyway, what will these look like once they are on this screen? Will the monitor stretch them out to fill the screen and make them look distorted and nasty? Will it crop them off so I can't see part of the picture? Something else? If it does one of the other of these things is there any way around this? My current monitor works OK with my current box with the Gamecube and N64, but that box doesn't work with the Wii, and my current monitor looks utterly crappy.

SteveJ

Comments on

I'm not a Dell computer fan, but I've always thought that they make nice monitors.
