Sony's VAIO P priced at £300 on Amazon's UK site
Now we're talking. We don't exactly what's going on in the UK, but this VAIO P for £300 (about $442) makes us seriously want to jet on over. The last time we saw one of these babies priced, we were looking at a steep £1,368.99 (or around $2,017) -- though that was for the kitted out 128GB SSD version with 3G broadband on-board. Still, we'll happily take this 60GB HDD / 2GB RAM iteration at this price, since it actually hits that sweet spot we were hoping to find the first time around. The only question is whether or not this isn't just some kind of nasty glitch in the Matrix -- it does seem unlikely we'll see price fluctuations this wide. Any word Sony? We'll be reaching for our credit cards and international waybills while we wait.
Update: If it seems to good to be true, it probably is, right? Right. The price is now back to the astronomical figure of £740 ($1,090). Drat.
[Thanks, Varuna]

$442?!?
Very sexy!!!
This is just a netbook and a slow one at that... no thanks... theres much better and cheaper alternatives, even at that price.
I'll take ten! :-O
that price is likely the invoice volue, assume they post the wrong data
cant be right
so it's wrong
Its still at £300 on UK Amazon but out of stock.... damn I would have got it ....
Maybe they priced it right ... that price is about right considering Acer Aspire One is around £200 and because this is Sony we're talking about £300 seems right... Then again as Sony is the only one with a netbook this small i'm sure they'd take advantage and put the price alot lot higher... so maybe it is wrong :S
"Sony Vaio P11ZG - Intel Atom Z520 1.33Ghz 2Gb 60Gb 8" X Black Vista home Premium - Green"
Why is it the 1.33Ghz version ...? I thought the UK was getting an Atom 1.6Ghz?
Can't be delivered to Germany. Damn.
BTW: There's also an 1,86GHz Version available:

Impossible. Sony is too dumb to price their products competitively. Otherwise, we'd all have PS3's. (And nobody has a PS3 for gaming)
While what you say is true, you do know that the PS3's are already priced below the costs, right?
@Levi-
Xbox Pro is $250, right? And I got my Blu-Ray player (Amazon) for $150, though many go for $200. Xbox pro plus blu-ray player...$400 to $450. Nuts.
whos a fantard? everyone knows best buy has shitty prices. an xbox arcade for $170 like I see on a regular basis+cheapest Blu ray player online at $130 is $300 total. Besides Blu ray is worthless anyway. Sony isnt too dumb about pricing, that would be apple. sony is dumb about manufacturing. Remember the PS2? They weere too chinsy to even put a laser rated at the proper voltage! they undercut it by .2 volts, meaning every single ps2 laser was being overvolted by 15%. With the PS3 they just dont know how to manufacture it efficiently, so they overspend every step of the way.
The PS3 is big, ugly, and loud. the 360 isnt exactly pretty, but it way cheaper, smaller, and quieter.
Wii pwnz them though.
Your the retard, since the PRO is 299
Justin -
BluRay worthless? X360 quiter than PS3? LOL. Thanks for the laughs. :)
And Sony generally overprices their newer computer products, but a month or two into production (about the time they supplant the flagships with newer models), the prices fall down to competitive levels. This is likely a bogus price.
Because obviously everyone that buys a videogame console wants blu-ray also.
Which would explain why there have been around 80 million game consoles sold this generation and not even half that many blu-ray players.
Hmm, how about their 120GB hard drive addon? Ohhh! $120. Can you use your own hard drive? NOPE!. Can you use any standard bluetooth headset for the XBox? Nope! Gotta buy their $60 one. Online? $60 a year... Does xbox let you install a linux distro easily on it? Nope, completely locked down to Microsoft. Yes, the PS3 is locked down, but they at least let you install a linux distro of your choosing.
So you see, the price really adds up when you start adding on. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but you really can't go by ONLY the shelf price for the console. The arcade model is very limited on extra abilities that the PS3 can do.. It's basically a tossup between what games you want to play (Metal Gear Solid 4, etc). Microsoft WILL make money off you, especially selling at that kind of price point.
@Vcize
Could it be that people are buying PS3s INSTEAD of blu-ray players? Oh no, that can't be right... Or maybe people buy the PS3 because it also allows them to play the dominating HD format (which Microsoft refuses to allow)... Sorry, your argument fails
So about the viao P...?
damn... that'd make this way more affordable... the us amazon needs a glitch like this too!
I want 10
Than make yourself, as if you can!?
hehe, fake in fake, engadget! You are a fake guy!
"He's a phony! Hey everyone! This guy's a phony!"
All the other colour variations are £740.
Error perhaps?
haha guys check it out i just got back from hacking the price on the vaio p on the amazon uk site it was aweso-
yeah, right, like you were really the one wh-
Isn't it wei-
arenn't glitches bitches?
+1 for Matrix reference.
Dang, ordered it but could only be delivered in the UK, I'm in the Netherlands.
so drive and boat a bit.
Living in Europe is no problem everything is within a few hours. Try living in Australia.
No, I believe Sony woke up to reality. The global economy isn't doing too well right now.
Ahh... NetZero, the days when internet access was free.
Got one! Must be an error, I'll let you know if amazon refuse to give it to me for that price
Do you live in the UK?
The Barcode Acts of 1993 and 2004 mean the price that was on display when you purchased it is the price you should pay, even if it's their error.
True but amazon's confirmation emails state that they dont enter a contract of sale until they dispatch the item so they can still refuse. Most retailers use that now to get out of the 'Computer Glitches'. Personally I think they accidentally set the prices on purpose to get this kind of free advertising exposure.
Yes, because a little backroom store like Amazon needs all the exposure they can get.
It's a glitch. It's fixed now. And from the reaction here, I think we know that actually giving it this price would cause them to own the netbook market entirely.
I can't seem to find any mention of the Barcode act, would love to know where it is incase they come back at me, Legislation overrules any terms and conditions.
No shipping to US WTF dammit!!
I just ordered one - it's allowed me to do it. So far so good - the netbook I wanted at a reasonable (but not cheap!) price. Here's hoping...
Is it worth the risk?
put a green one in my cart and price is now down to 260 euros...has to be a price mistake..good luck
It is a mistake (which is now corrected). The cheapest Vaio P is now 849 GBP.
It still shows £300
put the order into amazon, all as usual, its out of stock though, so lets see if it arrives!
I think they've realized their mistake as it's not on the site anymore. Dammit.
While I know you sit in your home, hunched over, screaming at how much you hate Sony, please refrain from making asinine comments of that nature; It makes you look really foolish..
"(And nobody has a PS3 for gaming)"
Oh, silly me! All those games I've been playing this whole time weren't meant to be played on the system? Well thanks for enlightening me! I'll gladly cease that nonsense at once!
Yes, Sony prices many its products in a ridiculous fashion, but the argument that the PS3 is "overpriced" is really getting old. Or do you enjoy repeating stereotypes that the internet and all your PS3-hating friends tell you to?
Then again, I just realized I fell straight into an obvious Engadget trolling attempt...
once again, my comment doesn't reply to the person I am replying to...
Thanks, Engadget!
The good news is, you didn't reply to the troll! ;)
Haha, indirectly is good enough for me. :)
Just ignore those poor trolls.
They can't afford a PS3 nor a 360 that's why they go to blogs/message boards and complain about the consoles they don't own.
