Oh, and many webpages, like engadget, for example, are designed for screens as narrow as 1024px; I'm using a 1024x768 display (lame work machine) right now, and it's fine. Since I have to scroll vertically anyway, the 768 vs 576 makes little practical difference.

Even so, I'll always wait for the high-res; if not for web, then for great justice. Is there any "user friendly" notebook vendor which has notebook/netbook on-line shop akin that of Apple. E.g. in HP you have to go thru piles of menus before you can actually see configuration of notebook. Comparing two notebook is always hustle and is impossible for notebooks from different "product lines." That's just bogus.
