Right now it is in a few cities like Baltimore, Portland, and parts of some others where it is being rolled out. The problem is that until devices start coming with WiMax radios, I doubt people will bother signing up for it. Until people start signing up for it, the rollout will be slow. I figure if I bought a device with a wifi radio I would be much more likely to use the service. It wasn't until WiFi radios were commonplace in laptops that you started to see free or paid wifi available in cafes, airports, libraries, etc. Same with 3G data. Why sign up for a data plan when your phone is a Razr? But when you buy an iPhone or a G1 or a Diamond or whatever, it comes with a EVDO or HSDPA radio and you are much more likely to sign up for the service since you can get some use out of it.

Likewise, I have a laptop with a WiMax radio. If I am ever in a city with WiMax available, I can pay for a day or a month's use and have wireless broadband wherever I am in the city.

Good devices with WiMax radios will be the main thing to push adoption and, subsequently, rollout in more and more markets.

neodorian

Comments on dmedia intros WiMAX-packing G5W GPS unit

Dear Dmedia,

That is some revolutionary, intuitive and truly gracious design.

Sincerely, 1995.

GBeatzRecrds
