Two Bosses Enter: King Ymiron vs. Drakkari Colossus

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW Insider's series of fantasy death matches. This season's bosses come from the five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King.

Close of the heels of this past week's Keristrasza's clawing of Cyanigosa, we offer up fresh meat to the denizens of WoW Insider: King Ymiron of Utgarde Pinnacle versus Drakkari Colossus from Gundrak.

Last season, we instructed readers to ignore the adds that come along with each fight. Here, we're going to allow Drakkari Colossus his elemental, so consider both Drakkari Colossus' golem form and the elemental form. Beyond that, assume that the bosses are of approximately the same level and health and that they're fighting in neutral territory. It's fighting abilities and scale that we're debating here, so don't get caught up in actual game mechanics. Consider the flavor each villainous gladiator brings to bear, and cast your vote for who you think would come out on top.

Load up your longboats with mojo and let's see where this goes!

Week Two: King Ymiron (Utgarde Pinnacle) vs. Drakkari Colossus (Gundrak)

King Ymiron, Utgarde Pinnacle

King Ymiron is the slumbering king of Northrend's Vrykul, the leader of the Dragonflayer clan who lies sleeping within Gjalerbron. Fanatically adored by his people, the now undead king has proven his worth to the Lich King.

Like the kingly Vrykul he is, King Ymiron hits like Thor's hammer. Normal hits are hard, and his Dark Slash cuts down 50 percent of the target's health. The king protects himself with Bane and complicates matters with the random cast of Fetid Rot.

Periodically during battle, King Ymiron's Screams of the Dead paralyze opponents for 8 seconds. During this time, he runs to one of the four longboats in the room to channel a spell from a Vrykul ancestor there. He will use that ability until the longboat burns shortly thereafter.

Longboat abilities include:

Drakkari Colossus, Gundrak

Drakkari Colossus is a mechanical golem boss, surrounded by small Living Mojos.

Living Mojo

Drakkari Colossus begins battle by merging with the Living Mojos encircling him. Periodically, he becomes immune from damage, summoning a large Living Mojo. The Living Mojo wreaks havoc with Mojo Puddle and Mojo Wave, until merging with the golem form again to repeat the melee phase of the battle. These stages alternate for the length of the fight.

The smackdown
Hold on! Before you vote, remember: this isn't a theorycrafting spreadsheet from Elitist Jerks. Two Bosses is more like the endless debates found on the EJ forums following a good mathematical smack-down, as posters shake down how things actually play out. Set aside differences in our opponents' health pools, level and damage output, and consider instead the spirit of each villain's abilities (including heroic abilities) and fighting style.
