Eurocom lays claim to Core i7-equipped Clevo D900F
Remember all those Clevo laptops revealed last month? While we're expecting more information at CeBIT 2009, those crazy Canadians at Eurocom have gone ahead and spilled the beans on the 17-inch D900F. As conjectured, the 11.9-pound behemoth's packing an equally-mighty Intel Core i7 processor in 2.66, 2.93 and 3.2GHz varieties. It's also got three 500GB hard drives totaling 1.5TB of space, 8GB DDR3 RAM, an NVIDIA G280 GPU, and a Blu-ray burner. Launch date is May 1, although according to Notebook Reviews we shouldn't expect to get our hands on it until Q4 2009. No word on pricing, but we suspect this powerhouse is gonna burn a giant hole in our pockets from both the inside and out.

Friggen finally!
Not really. These are just desktop CPUs and chipsets being crammed into a laptop. The battery life will be absolute garbage, but if you want a portable workstation, this will be great.
I'm just kidding you realize. It just seemed to be the inevitable conclusion to the trend of putting the Core 2 Quads in laptops.
This thing is awesome though. I think it might just be a portable version of my new desktop, except 10x more expensive.
That thing is packing some serious hardware, probably 3k at a minimum.
If only the aesthetics of that thing matched its (presumed) price tag.
finally? the older model's been using the Core 2 Quads all last year, check out PCTorque or PowerNotebooks, they've got'em still
What gets displayed on screen will make you forget how ugly the physical laptop is.
webcam?, oh shucks it had everything else
of course there's a webcam... in fact, I believe Clevo was one of the first (if not the first) notebook ODM to make it a standard in their systems.
Nice, I wonder what the battery life on this thing is.
Forget about battery life, these things are meant to be desktop replacements.
In other words, keep them plugged into the wall charger.
Valid point, but for that amount of coin, you might as well get a desktop.
psshhh, batteries are for wimps!
Probably just enough time to move the AC adapter from one outlet in your house to another.
@Son:
This laptop can (easily or not) be brought on a plane on a carry-on. Right now, there are no mini/microATX mobos available that support the 1366 socket, so for the portability (not mobility), it's rather attractive to those of us gamers who have to travel on extended breaks every so often (college students for winter/summer break, business executives, weekend LAN warriors, etc.)
Unlimited, it's powered by Mr Fusion...
about 30 minutes on its SLI/Quad-core configuration, some reviews call it good UPS life rather than poor battery life
This is not a laptop... it's a portable desktop with an integrated UPS :P
That's hot.
No, seriously, this thing must have some ridiculous cooling options to keep all that hardware from burning a hole in your table, let alone your legs.
Let's hope Canadians use them outdoors
@Brian:
Oh NO you didn't.
i really do wonder how they did it, i mean i had a P4 laptop a while ago and that got insanely hot and that had 2 huge fans so how on earth that dont melt itself i really dont know
When will we get a real i7 based Laptop that us people who work hard and who are not willing to spend $2000?
Same time next year.
Remember people this is a a desktop replacement. It's design to move from outlet to outlet with very little battery usage in between. l use to own one four years ago when I use to use it for 3D work when I'm away from my desktop machine. And l do min the power
If my dick was a laptop, it would be this.
Ugly?
Stupid, impractical, and too expensive?
Fail.
runs out of power fast?
"runs out of power fast?"
BEST. COMMENT. EVER.
you guys arent nice :(
It happens when you aren't too smart
no, large, heavy, and nobbly.
Only desired by overweight supergeeks living in his mom's basement?
At 11.9 pounds, this ain't portable, it's luggage.
The Engadget people should have photoshopped this into someone's pocket.
too bad this thing looks like it is circa 2000
bullet proof?
Is it going to use normal i7 or special mobile one
Would be nice if there was a special mobile one...
It would have to be extra special and not run out of power fast.
cute.
12 cell lithium ion battery with a approx. runtime of 2 seconds
18 cell battery optional for an additional 5 seconds of runtime
If I'm paying > $3,000 for a laptop, I'd like other non-tech savvies to think at least it "looks" that expensive. I mean could they make the design a little less "ordinary", without it being Alienware?
No.
you guys do realize that Alienware had been re-branding Clevo notebooks for the longest time right?
- with an Alien-head and lights.
Also, I have the D900K (world's first dual core notebook), its got the same 12-cell battery.
- I get about 1.5 hours of batterylife, and 45 min if I put it to full load
Hmm...
Oh man, this is going to cause confusion. Just so everyone knows:
This laptop is using the desktop version of the Core i7. Somehow, somehow, they managed to fit it inside a laptop that doesn't look 2 inches thick (but of course, I could be wrong). How in the world they did that I don't know.
No, Intel has not made mobile versions of Core i7... yet. They will make them, of course, (as they do with just about all their processors) , but they will not be on the market until later this year. Remember, Intel always comes out with the desktop versions of processors first.
Just so you know, Mac users.
if you knew Clevo, you would realize that they have been making notebooks with desktop CPUs for a while.
Recently,
D900T with LGA775 Pentium 4 EE
D900K with Socket 939 AMD X2, FX-60, or Opteron
Currently,
D901C with LGA775 Intel Core 2 Duo / Exteme / Quad (65nm & 45nm), three internal HDDs and SLI MXM Type IV vidoecards
FYI, the D901C also has the best notebook cooling design to-date.... no other notebook can match it.
Doesn't seem to have triple channel ram, though I'm new at all this, shouldn't a triple channel have ram in 3GB instances (3,6,12..)?
