Second, its going to have to be made light, very light, but in order to pass federal crash safety guidelines its going to have to be strong too, that means expensive materials will have to be used in its making.

By the time its all the engineering is done they could probably sell it to you for around 30 grand for a smaller than a metro sized vehicle. You might be able to make the vehicle a little larger if you use diesel or hybrid technology, but both of those will probably add 5 to 10 grand to the price. Now how many people do you know would pay 30 to 40 grand for a small car?

I don't know many that would. Don't get me wrong, I like small cars, I had a geo metro for many years, loved the little underpowered pod. But their is a reason they are not sold any more. The companies do not make much money off them, and as safety standards went up, the efficiency of the vehicle was going down.

Honda made the Yaris a Metro like vehicle in its size and was still only able to get it up to a little above 40 mpg, not the 50 of the metro. Their is no conspiracy by "big oil" to kill small vehicles in this country, its simple economics. The major car companies have huge bills to pay (union contracts, salaries, health care, and R&D), and they just cannot pay those bills by selling the small cars alone. Part of the reason they push SUV's and trucks so hard is that they have huge margins, and people buy them in large numbers.

blaberski

Comments on GM to mold San Fran and D.C. into early adopter markets for Chevy Volt

I blame the Americans...

go across the pond and every woman knows how to drive a manual, check air tire pressure and what not...

here the gov. has to make the industry put Tire pressure monitors in the cars because retards don't know how to do that! and even if they

did know they don't give 2 SHITES! about it!

SO now the industy has to add more electronic crap to already crappy cars..

how is it that I can drive around in an old caprice for 5 years but yet some fat ass totals a 2008 model with all that traction control?

Good for all of you!

Electric bicycles will rule!

iEye yet again

Comments on GM to mold San Fran and D.C. into early adopter markets for Chevy Volt

@ blaberski :
But we should have at least the choice of motor they have in europe.
