Once you cross the $450 mark, it's no longer a netbook, it's a cheapo sub-notebook. They're easier to clean and transmit brightness a lot better. Unless you're dealing with a color-calibrated professional screen (which you're NOT going to find on a netbook).

But you're right, Information Central. We should demand better. I've just grown a nut. Let's pile burning tires outside of Fry's and Best Buy and scream for our right to 1990s era displays. If the Everex Cloudbook (which I was glad to be rid of for my new AAO) could have a matte screen, by golly the Chinese should listen to our consumer demands. And if they don't give in, why...why we just won't enjoy any new gadgets until they listen! That'll teach 'em. Who's with me and Information Central? Let's stop buying gadgets with glossy screens and maybe they'll feel the hurt in Taipei and Shenzhen and retool all their manufacturing processes to finally see the wisdom of Information Central's vision. After all, the consumer is always right!

You've opened my eyes and truly affected my purchase decisions in the future. The Acer Aspire One is silent compared to most computers (currently typing on a MacBook Pro which sounds like it is taking off into outer space). The wireless card is amazing, once again better than my previous dell computer and the current MacBook Pro, and I am not going to start on Windows, but if it is so bad, get your favorite distro of Linux. In all honesty, the Acer Aspire One is a great deal when considering it is a small, inexpensive computer. It can do most of your daily tasks, if not all, and I completely recommend it. The only short coming are the speakers, but you did not buy the computer for great speakers (hopefully).

JohnWesleyHarding

Comments on Acer Aspire One D150 with N270 previewed, now available for US pre-order

"XP is a hoary, nagging POS."

WTF are you talking about?

Information Central

Comments on Acer Aspire One D150 with N270 previewed, now available for US pre-order

Oh no you didn't...

http://www.google.com

Sam Stone

Comments on Acer Aspire One D150 with N270 previewed, now available for US pre-order

Wut? And the wireless card is a big issue. The Atheros card that came with my AAO150 was so bad that I had to replace it. It would not maintain an ad-hoc connection with my iPhone (needed for tethering at work where I have no internet) and just kept cutting out. I took the AAO apart and added an Intel card which works beautifully and maxed out the RAM to 1.5GB while I had it open. Runs Vista Ultimate without breaking a sweat.

People can say what they will about the AAO, but it's very fast for a Netbook, due to its having a full-sized laptop SATA drive. A lot of people don't realize that the AAO comes with such a generous amount of storage for the price.

Markarian

Comments on Acer Aspire One D150 with N270 previewed, now available for US pre-order

What is it with vendors not understanding the purpose of model numbers anymore? I carry my big Dell XPS gaming laptop around with me all the time, but I also carry my little Aspire One in a tiny little backpack. The Acer is perfect for when I'm on the go and I just want to check Engadget, Facebook, or my email. It's been a perfect addition to the family.
