HP Mini 1000 Mi gets video review
HP's Mini 1000 Mi has been up for order since CES, but for those still waiting (and waiting) for a proper overview of the system before buying in can finally say that their patience has paid off. The netbook lovin' crew over at jkOnTheRun has taken the time to showcase the aforementioned machine on video, going over the basics, the not-so-basics and the pros / cons of ownership. We're going to warn you up front, though -- the clip is darn near 20 minutes long, so you'll certainly want to snag some cookies and milk before diving into the read link. That said, you'll be hard pressed to find a better look at the Mi software without actually removing your keister from your chair, so it's probably worth your while.

anybody know if the program runs any better, when I tried it when it was first released it was taking up 50% CPU utilization on the MSI Wind
In my opinion, it certainly looks like one of the best looking netbooks on the market. The main peeves for me are the 1.8" HDD/SSD and no VGA port, a dongle is required. I'm guessing these choices were taken to maintain its thin chassis?
Mini Mi....hmm; I'll bite, how good really is the HP Pavillion Austin powers
The HP Mini 1000 is the best form factor of any netbook I've ever seen. Put Ion in there and I'll buy one right now. The current Intel GMA is too anemic to get anything done.
I've had mine a few days.
Pros: So far I'd give it a 9/10. Nicely built. Quicker than expected. Bright sharp screen. Excellent keyboard layout and feel (considering form factor).
Cons: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi not separately switchable. Manual Wi-Fi config (for non-broadcast SSID) only offers WEP, not WPA. OpenOffice installed is v2.4, not v3. Webcam is woefully insensitive. HP says it's not a low-light item. I'd say it's not a normal light item.

I've had one of these for 2 weeks now, it's a great little computer but the Mi O/S sucks as much as jkOnTheRun's video reviews... install Windows 7 beta instead and it flies! especially when you have an upgraded RunCore SSD in it because the stock SSD/HDD's are slow...
This is a nice model by HP and all but if you can spring another $100-150, get the HP 2140. Nearly the same form-factor, but has noticeable improvements:
6cell battery at a reasonable upgrade price (+ $30).
Standard ExpressCard/ 80211abgn/bluetooth.
Standard 2.5" hard drive with some kind of shock/stability mechanism.
Optional 1366x768.
Metallic casing.
I can't wait for a full video review of that device. It's pretty much sold out any place that sells it.
That said HP is leading the value/quality race for these netbooks. Competition is good.
Nice, but it's no Tablet Netbook. I *LOVE* my Classmate Convertible! TOUCH SCREENS ROCKS!
HP has to stop putting buttons like wifi (and the fricking power button?!) on the front edge of the laptop. If you recline with it on your lap you can easily shut off the internet, and in this case, the computer. This happens to me all the time.
