HTC Diamond2 TouchFLO 3D screenshots appear for your enjoyment
Windows Mobile 6.5 got the lion's share of attention this week at MWC, but HTC's TouchFLO 3D shell for 6.1 got some interesting interface tweaks for the new Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2, and we'd say they're actually more interesting than 6.5 honeycomb launcher and new unlock screen -- especially the newly revised keyboards with haptic feedback. Plenty more screenshots at the read link, and don't forget to check out our hands-on videos of the Pro2 and Diamond2 if you haven't already.

meh
I think the original HTC Touch Diamond interface look better. I love the weather option the most and the preload pinball thingy game.
HTC diamond owner here. TouchFlow is better than to 6.1, but I find it too clunky. It hides a some of 6.1 but not enough. It's like you're stuck between two OS which you have to go back and forth. I also find a lot of useless buttons for useless features in the front home interface that I would like to get rid of and put buttons I most often use. From what I see, I'm willing to try 6.5, if MS allows me to install it on my diamond.
I find it funny that engadget hates the 6.5, yet gizmodo likes the 6.5...somebody didn't didn't pay money in the mail?

This is quite a nice preview video of a hacked ROM with the new verison of TF3D running on a Touch HD. Very nice indeed and I especially like the new keyboard and the landscape version.
I have a Diamond and like TF3D, but to be honest I got a bit bored of it, disabled it and am now using PointUI Home 2.
dude this phone is a fap-fest
my wallet just doesnt want to go down with this =\
Shockingly, the original Diamond and Pro were incapable of displaying more than 1 calendar item (1 normal, 1 all day event only, even if you 'swipe' the clock upwards)
But why does the tab kinda look like ipod's slide to unlock?
Anyway, hopefully, skilled chefs at xda-developers will be able to port the new manila to diamond :)
this is only due to a pure screen real-estate issue. the touch diamond2 and pro2 both have wvga screens, alotting more space for calendar events, much akin to the touch hd.
As far as I know, the touch hd is limited to only 2 as well
Even so, there is more than enough space once you swipe it upwards
Also, (I can't seem to access the link), does the new manila also have a tasks tab, or perhaps implemented on the calendar tab?
I was very surprised to see that there were no tabs for tasks on the original touchflo3d
Sorry - this is not true. You can get up to 3 appointments to show up on the home screen.
This phone is decent, but suffers from three major issues:
Poor battery life, as the battery size is only a small upgrade over the Diamond, thus a small improvement over a device that didnt get great battery life, even with a custom rom.
No headphone jack. I can understand the pro 2 not getting it, but this one? Not acceptable.
The same absolutely horrible Qualcomm processor that is in my TP. If they happened to give it better drivers, then it would make it much better. But without them, its shit.
At least ill be able to get the new TF3D soon:

It's funny, the same "horrible processor" is in my unlocked GSM Palm Treo Pro, runnning at a lower clock speed, and it's fine. I wouldn't blame the hardware. WM 6.1 runs pretty fast with TouchFlo 3D disabled on the original Touch Pro. The processor has plenty of power, it's the HTC software shell that needs to be optimized (and video drivers as well). I'll bet the updated TouchFlo 3D runs better on the TP2.
The audio jack is the HTC ExtUSB. It's that USB thingy and the audio jack in one.
He probably means a 3.5 mm audio jack. True, it should have had one. Being iteration 2, i expected a lot more features.
@dwboston i think that's why he blamed the drivers more than the proc
Remember, the Palm has a lower resolutionn screen. The Diamond suffers with its Qualcomm processor in terms of screen rendering because of a high resolution screen. Add in the poor display drivers and you havve a pretty laggy phone, and no custom rom has fixed the poor game performance.
Now increase the screen resolution and keep the same processor and all you are doing is increasing the problem. Now, should they finally use the 3D core that exists in the Qualcomm processor, then this will be a good phone.
Both the diamond and pro make little to no use of the graphics core on the processor, leading to a poor experience. Even the HD, which has a better and smoother version of TF, suffers from the same problems (poor game performance and terrible video playback speed).
A screen of this resolution should get nothing less than the Snapdragon that, as clearly shown by the Toshiba, can actually handle all of that screen real estate and perform well.
And yes, i meant a 3.5" jack.
I would have to see some benchmarks of this phone to make a true judgement. But considering the history of HTC, I expect nothing but dissapointment out of this phone.
I know - I owned an HTC Fuze for a couple of weeks and returned it, mostly due to the lousy speakerphone, but the poor video performance bothered me as well. The Treo Pro's screen resolution is 320x320 and it's amazing how much better video looks on it compared to the Touch Pro. I love the looks of the Touch Pro2 (and the speakerphone upgrade) but I'll wait for the initial reviews before deciding to buy one. They seem to be positioning it as a business device so I'm not too hopeful the video problems will be solved.
I wonder if the new iteration will have the ability to display tasks. That seemed like a rather serious omission, at least for some.
Its a horrible phone and extremely over priced. I got rid of mine htc touch pro and got a nokia E71 i am much happier for sure
man I am sooo glad I was too poor to afford the first one.
the red link isn't red here.......it's always blue-ish.......
I also read red when i read read, once I read read but it was red
That's what she 'said'
The link is not working for me. Is anyone else having problems?
Yeah, it's not loading. Probably got overloaded.
After seeing the Toshiba TG01, I can only hope Sprint considers widening their WM line up - particularly after the fiasco we've had HTC phone after HTC phone. I bought the Diamond - did all the tweaks and with BT and push exchange mail enabled it lasted from 4-8 hours max without even using it as a phone. I ended up going back to my 2 year old Touch phone with the same functions I'd last a full day and use the phone for about an hour or more.

For all I know the HTC units work fine with other carriers but frankly I'd be very happy if Sprint switched to Toshiba or offered this as well as an HTC phone so I could get one that I can use for a full day and probably has no issues with BT like most of the HTC phones.
Why does the diamonds TF3D appear different when compared to the touch pro 2...
It looks identical to the TF3D HD I have running on my touch pro right now. Once I got a cooked ROM on there the phone is amazing.
Also, my touch pro will go 3-4 days of light voice use w/o recharging.
-The phone needs some tweaks out of the box, but it is a seriously impressive piece of hardware. The stock ROMs are just horrible though.
My Touch Diamond has great battery life. What I did was to schedule Exchange manually. I have Wifi on all the time and the phone normally last for over 2 days between charge. BTW, I have flashed with the CT's 6.4 HD Lite ROM. Fast and Stable. Highly recommended.
As for the new Diamond 2, the spec looks good. But I think the Touch Pro 2 is more interesting. Glad to see the tilt screen has returned.
finally HTC catches up to Samsung standard from '08.
I own a touch pro, and i just installed some COmpletely EMPTY rom, it has nothing what so ever at all. 0.
and my phone is SO FASTTT
i installed all the apps, i use the origional windows 6.1 dialer, and all my appps and everything run so much faster its like no comparison.
i love it.
and i have no real need for touchflo.
Here is a crazy idea for most of the companies and phones at MWC Barcl this week, "Stop trying to copy the iphone!" All I have read about and seen for the following five days is nokia copies iphone, htc makes phone like iphone, etc. It just proves how bad the market is and the people making phones. Get some new ideas people, innovate....because that is the only way you'll ever beat the iphone. It is amazing to me how these multi-million and multi-billion $$$$ companies can't come up with some device or hire some smart people to make some device that will honestly compete with the iphone. Either create or get in line..........and i see a line forming.
This neither looks nor functions like the iPhone.
The iPhone is a HUGE downgrade from the capabilities of this phone, both in terms of hardware, software, and interface.
Hangon... You're telling manufactures to innovate. Anything is innovation compared to the iPhone. Oh wow, it has icons on a screen. So innovative.
These devices don't compete with the iPhone, because the iPhone has already lost. It's the asmatic kid at the back of the lineup, with the Rhodium and Topaz being professional sprinters.
Offering touch-friendly phones and making a better user experience automatically means copying the iPhone? Wow, I will give some credit to the iPhone for shaking up the mobile phone world, but let's not get overboard.
It was pretty much a natural evolution to offer touch-friendly phones as technology is getting better, and the user experience is something companies have been working on for awhile. Apple just managed to get their product into the mainstream fast and did a good job of hyping it.
Beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful. Definitely one of the best devices at the show.
how do you get that clock up on the sprint touch diamond
Pfft, screenshots? The stuff's being ported as we speak, baby!
Look at you go l3v5y, just look at you go. Apple has 30 billion in the bank off of just a handful of products that get refreshed just twice a year. Who can do that in this tech game? No one. The iphone is awesome and the rest of these bell and whistles smart phones are just hype gadgets.
I bet you don't even do shit with a quarter of the features on that overloaded thing. And Apple never said they invented touch tech but they sure as hell know how to use it. Tell me something, a lot of you bitch that Apple just does great advertising to sell what everybody else has and has had before them; so why the hell don't you see those companies advertising like Apple? What, did their balls fall off! If your fucking HTC Diamond is so goddamn terrific, why isn't HTC dropping some serious coin to sell that bitch? Huh.
And Nokia just mass produces shit. That's their game. Rolling out tons of hardware.
I can't wait to see what Apple does with the iphone that's coming out soon.
Oh, how could I have forgotten that Sprint Instinc commercial. You know the one where the chick is in love with the instinc and wants to shove it up her butt hole. My co worker has one and it is a piece of shit.
Quikboy, l3v5y, Hamidxa: explain this. For the last ten years the mobile phone market was a cesspool. Innovation was slow if any, companies constantly copied each other, marketing was horrid and the worst part: each company released tons of phones each year, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year with slight change. Phone turn over rate was abusive and they did this with slight or no change to the phones themselves. Over time they milked more and more cash out of you with out you getting any kind of new tech in the phone that you are buying. Then a company with no ties to the mobile phone sector joined the club, releasing the iphone which did all the things other phones couldnt. Apple was smart how they marketed, sold and built the iphone but here is the crazy thing...Its not that the iphone is some missing link, its a great phone with current tech and a great OS, the crazy thing is these massive companies still havnt got their act together to make a competing phone. They just want to pump out 60 different phones a year and sell sell sell hardware. I mean just look at the motorola brand razr.....make something new or the Nokia N series....come on Nokia=biggest mobile company in the world=most boring phones in the world.
and if you are in doubt over what the iphone will be able to do, check out the future now: :)
