(well) on it, 7 isn't ready yet (for mainstream, though it might be fun to try on this), and the only XP version still available for license is Home. This would need XP Tablet to use the touchscreen reasonably. Unless ASUS adds those features in their custom software that wasn't ready for review.

This may be ready for mainstream when Win7 does go gold, and ASUS may have a hit on their hands.

Though it needs higher resolution, IMO. It's only 1024x600; the HTC Touch Pro2 is 800x480 in its little 3.6" display. This is 8.9", so it could use at least 1280x800, which would allow 720p video. (It has a tuner available, after all...)

thedesolate1: XP Tablet has handwriting recognition. Home doesn't. ASUS can't use Tablet anymore, due to MS licensing that only allows Home. That's why their custom software is so important. Vista has much improved handwriting recognition over XP Tablet, but forget about running Vista on this. Win7 looks like it might work on it though. For now, it's gotta have third-party software for handwriting.

Michael

Comments on ASUS Eee PC T91 sits down for photo shoot, early critique

happy i just spent 350 on the eee 901. i like the 9 inch form factor.

im sure this will cost near or more then 500. i like the tablet form, but i doubt it will get 6+ hour battery.

if it blows the 900 outta the water, maybe ill upgrade, just had to snatch it up cause they arent making 9 inches no mo.

nicktherat

Comments on ASUS Eee PC T91 sits down for photo shoot, early critique

Spamming for engadget on engadget. All the hardware in this sucker has power conservation in mind, paired with the six cell battery - it'll definately last that long. And after that, invest in a screwdriver. When the warranty ends, replace it yourself. I don't see what all the fuss about the battery is, unless you'd be carrying around another battery to switch out for extended use.

I had an 1000ha model, and it worked fantastic. I'm putting the T91 up for HEAVY consideration, the tablet form factor just makes sense for netbooks. Perfect for E-Books, Movies, and browsing the web, there's really nothing to complain about as far as I can tell. And also directed at the people complaining about the lack of a capacitative tablet, that's not what Asus was shooting for with this model. The touchscreen is meant for the convenience of use for all of the tasks the original EEE PC's were meant to do - not note taking and graphic composition. I'm not getting my hopes up on the Asus Touch software suite, it looks like they're going the wrong way with that. I'm probably either going to keep a clean install of xp home minus the suite, and install my own third party touch software, go Linux, or install the beta version of Windows 7 which runs surprisingly well.

If you're looking for a Wacom grade tablet in a low-priced netbook, you're not only looking in the wrong places, but you're expecting too much out of the market this early. The tablet-netbook craze has only just started. I'm a student and graphic artist myself, so don't think I'm just ruling out as useless. This machine, though, is about the same size as my Wacom Tablet, so the lack of capacitance really isn't that much of an inconvenience for me.

I'm actually more excited for this then I let on. Come on Asus! It's March! I don't care if you didn't give a definitive date, I want my T91!

Jack Wolfe

Comments on ASUS Eee PC T91 sits down for photo shoot, early critique

Odd... every other review of preview of the T91 and T101 says the touchscreen is multitouch - they even demo the feature... which means either ASUS removed multitouch or bittech got it wrong - or Murph missed something.

Jeff Lewis

Comments on ASUS Eee PC T91 sits down for photo shoot, early critique

That swivel hinge is not inspiring my confidence.

chispito

Comments on ASUS Eee PC T91 sits down for photo shoot, early critique

How else would you like a tablet to be hinged?

CaramelZappa

Comments on ASUS Eee PC T91 sits down for photo shoot, early critique

I just want this to be awesome because it's the best touchscreen option price-wise.
