It also means you've got to think relatively about what the dial means - compared to a number where you can see "ah yeah, i've got 20 shots left, i can either delete some or find a PC". If you have a 8GB SDHC card and it's bordering on "empty" well, that could still be 200 shots left. On a 1GB card, it could be 30-50. What i'm trying to get at is that it's no use giving an arbitrary, linear scale. They would be better off having a log scale with say >1000, 100, 10, 0 (this wouldn't stop it from being analogue) marked on it so you can actually judge the amount of shots you can take.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and the battery meter is really nifty - much better than those vague "3 bar" controls - but the card space indicator has been poorly implemented.

Josh

Comments on

@Josh
The analog gauges are a great feature for people unfamiliar with modern technology (read: the elderly). I'd much prefer ISO and exposure gauges. I don't really have a need to have a precise reading on battery power, it still goes just as dead as always (and probably isn't much more precise than the three bar measurement). Photo storage is even less a concern, I've never filled up my 4 gig card in a single day of shooting. Again, when the card is full the only thing you can do is put in another one.

+1 for analog gauges though. I love retro.
