I buy the blu-ray/DVD of the movies I really like and rent the ones I haven't seen or just have a passing interest in.

I love having an large collection of movies that I can reference at a moments notice. Let's say a friend comes over and we decide it might be fun to watch, let's say "Boogie Nights". I can just pull it out. No driving to the store, hoping it's in stock or waiting 2 days to get it from Netflix. And again, I NEVER pay $30 for a Blu-Ray. I can find what I want for anywhere from $10 to $20.

And as much as I like Netflix you don't ALWAYS get the movies you want when you want them. I've been waiting for "Into the Wild" on Blu-Ray for nearly a month now.

You seem to not be able to grasp the idea that not everyone is exactly like you. The rest of us have to deal with people on a regular basis that can't even connect to a wireless access point without the install disk or a 100$ visit from the geek squad.

You and I are the EXCEPTION, not the RULE.

Most people have no idea how to burn a DVD with a firmware downloaded from the internet, or even what a firmware is. For the vast majority of all customers, that firmware will say the same version it was when it was delivered to the store. When Spiderman 3 does not play in a device WITHOUT a firmware upgrade, the device is effectively "broken" to the consumer. They don't know what to do at that point, and some of them are smart enough to get an RMA. Others take it back to the store and complain loudly.

That's why DRM is a problem for Blu-Ray expanding.
