Onei Solutions TV stand cuts down on clutter, power

TV stands with built-in speakers aren't exactly as uncommon as you may think, but this new rig from Onei Solutions (apparently built by S&C Group) is certainly a bit more stylish than most, even it may not completely be a substitute for a standalone system. While it's not clear exactly what sort of system is packed inside, you will apparently get 15W of power from each speaker, along with a reasonable number of inputs and outputs (including two HDMI and two Toslink), a built-in VFD screen, removable speaker covers and, of course, a full-function remote control (the stand itself will accommodate TVs up to 50 inches). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this one's available 'round these parts just yet, but folks in the UK can apparently pick one up now for £385.98, or about $530.

Oh, the difference a space makes
Onei Solutions TV Stand: sales = 20,000 units
One iSolutions TV Stand: sales = 50,000 units
Oh well, there's always next time...
Sorry, but this looks like a$$..
I think it actually looks pretty good... though I would most likely keep the speaker covers on. As long as the sound is quality it's a pretty good idea. Would be cool if it had a few matching satellite speakers too.
Its look super good, no kidding. I really like it.
It doesn't look bad and it's actually not that expensive when you consider the price of a reasonably good stand plus extra speakers. I may keep my eye on this one.
This looks great from the image above.
And someone above had an excellent idea... satellites. This should be designed to be a center channel, or maybe the front and center channels... and the receiver / amp in the unit should have connections for more satellites, rear / sides, etc. It's mandatory that they make the satellites so it's a consistent sound, otherwise, this is just a really large and not portable boom box. :o
I'll just wait for Paradigm to make one, then you can count me in.
Are anyone else's time that is displaying for the Engadgets posts seem to off by an hour for your local time? All of my PC clocks are correct.
They seem to be correct, and account for daylight savings time...
wow, maybe i just noticed they use Eastern time for their posts where i am in central time (holds head in shame).
hideous
Looks ok, wonder how they sound..
My guess is as "ok" as they look.
*obligatory wattage does not necessarily reflect sound quality or even volume comment*
But 15 watts ... i mean even the best 15 watts can't be all that powerful .. Can it ?
Obligatory "The first watt is the most important watt..."
The efficiency of the speaker determines how many decibels are produced per watt.
OTOH, this is just a return to the all-in-one consoles that were sold by the bazillions during the mid-20th century. We already know the mass consumer doesn't really care what it sounds like, just how it looks and how easy it is to use. If people will buy a HTiB, they will buy this.
(sigh)
...not that all consoles were bad. I wouldn't mind finding a vintage JBL Metregon:

*obligatory riposte in the form of a link to a hugely expensive ($3000+) 15 watt mono class A valve amplifier*

15w per speaker seems a bit anemic to me.
Only if the speakers are inefficient. These speakers http://www.professionalhomecinema.com/index.php/mounts/iw/ will put out over 120db with 15 watts. Typical speakers (sensitivity of 88-90db) will put out over 100db with 15 watts.
THX reference level is 85db.
Great space-saving idea. The execution isn't aesthetically pleasing on this model, but that could change...
Looking good to me...I like the sound bar from Yamaha too.
looks weak - and im sure theres vibration also
That was my thought exactly. If it is "cranked" would the vibrations leak to the tv?
this looks pretty much amazing, especially for a small living room.

how is this better than a shelf in it's place, on which i could put my own receiver and speakers?
This could actually be pretty cool, if it's decent quality. I know it looks a big ugly in the pics, but that's with the speaker covers off for illustration purposes. I tried searching for pics with the covers on, but couldn't find any. The specs are OK, not great but good enough for a lot of general users.
The one thing I didn't see on the spec that I was looking for is a subwoofer output, to connect a real sub. Maybe it just didnt make it to the specs though. Here are the I/O specs for those too lazy to click:
* HDMI input x 2,
*HDMI Output x 1
* Optical Digital Audio Input x 2
* Twin Phono Stereo Input x 2
* External 6.1 Cinema Inputs x 1
* Additional Subwoofer Output x1
* Coaxial Output x 1
The price seems right actually, considering an entry level HTIB costs around that much for about the same specs, and a decent stand costs at least $100.
Look again, I think you found that spec.
dude this thing is awesome :D i wants one
Living in an apartment this would be great when I'm finally ready to upgrade my CRT to Flat screen & my Dolby 2.0 surround system. I'm still using giant speakers in wooden cabinets with 12 woofers!
That's awesome for college kids, and young folk/electronically challenged types. Otherwise, weak amp and speakers, means less than awesome sound.
it is not available in the UK either:
