This isn't Apple's "budget" MP3 player!! Just because it costs less than their other players that doesn't mean it's a cheaper replacement for any of them. It's meant to fill a very specific niche, one that most people on Engadget have NO understanding of.

This is SPECIFICALLY for people with active lifestyles that need something so small and light that it's unnoticeable while running or working out. It's specifically designed to be turned on and left alone while it goes about and does it's thing while you do yours, something it does better than any other player, including Apple's other offerings. Didn't you ever wondered why they call it a "Shuffle"?

Placing controls on a device that's meant to be immediately tucked away makes NO SENSE and just takes away from it's durability. Trust me, when you're running 10 miles the last thing you give a shit about is the display or controls on your MP3 player.. And anyone who's brining up "sound quality" in a discussion of devices that play highly compressed audio files is a dumbass.

If you're looking for a sub $100 MP3 player then keep looking, Apple doesn't make your device. If you live an active lifestyle and want a player you can turn on and forget about, go for it.

utahnkid

Comments on

"Honestly, why anyone buys an iPod is beyond me."
People who are not like us who don't really give a shit about features or sound or anything like that, but care more about looks.
