We never, ever thought it'd take this long, but we've finally received a sign that the Wii supply and demand might be nearing some equilibrium, almost two and a half years later. According to GameStop SVP Bob McKenzie, the retailer now has a couple weeks' worth of supply, which seems to be fairly unprecedented given the
numerous shortage stories we've heard over the console's 852-day lifespan. That's not to say the console's popularity is waning -- it's still topping US sales charts, and according to NPD, pushed over 750,000 units last month. So now that one shortage might be nearing its end, how about Nintendo find a way to keep
Wii Fit in stock?

Or how about keeping new "good" games in stock?
how bought making new good games?
how about the wii 2
Wii Fit's and Mario Kart is still hard to find.
I didn't think the Wii was that impossible to locate this Christmas when we got one, though.
Its a conspiracy, nintendo is creating this shortage!!
if everyone's complaining about the lack of games, and how it sucked, who's buying those consoles?
soccer moms who want to play wii sports
The past 5 times I have gone into the Gamestop that my friend works at, I see about 5 Wii Fits just sitting on the floor behind the counter.
you can almost find new Wii fits less than retail on ebay now.
Got one for Christmas for myself and my father.
Haven't really turned the thing on since mid January.
The way its meant to be.
i won't click on your stupid blog
Madworld and House of the Dead might actually make me dust off my wii
Nintendo needed a rail-shooter much earlier. This could have been a big title, especially if they came out with a gun controller that didn't suck ass. Maybe a retro, old-school NES zapper?
They did have rail shooters, they've had a resident evil rail shooter for years. If you can't find enough good games then you aren't looking very hard. Everyone thats hates on the wii can hate all they want, because apparently the rest of the world disagrees with you.
Why are people buying Wiis? The software selection is pure crap, the UI feels janky and not smooth enough, and the damn thing can't even play DVDs (something that the "previous-gen" PS2 achieves). It's also really awkward to play while sitting down, which isn't a problem if u have friends over for about 15 mins, but doesn't lend itself to proper gaming.
It's not just a 'kid' thing either - my little brother also hates the thing at his friend's house, strongly preferring his own 360..
Who cares about DVD playback? Someone in the market for a Wii most likely already has a DVD player at home. This is 2009, I can grab a DVD player for £20.
they are pocketing some nice royalty money (to the tune of millions) by omitting DVD codecs; good on 'em.
The popularity of the Wii is purely viral. The novelty of the control-scheme "wows" people the first time they try it, so they think it's the next evolution in gaming and thus purchase one. Little do they know that the friend who let them play his Wii is actually not playing it at all anymore, unless newbies come over to his house. Then, the person that just bought one will show his/her friends, they will buy one, and he will get sick of his Wii, too. It's like an STD with no cure. Unless the "cure" is to just leave the damn thing off.
Where are the good games? The best games for the Wii out there are created by NINTENDO! Other publishers/dev houses that port good games over to the Wii don't even CARE about the quality of the port! The hardware on the Wii is so ancient that they KNOW they can't achieve the same look as their 360/PS3 version, so they don't even try. You can harp about "it's not about the graphics" all you want, but there always is a point where you're asking yourself if the system was actually worth the cost.
I've got several friends with Wii's that haven't turned it on in MONTHS. Save your bucks, get a 360 (or, better yet, a PS3 for Blu Ray compatibility) and actually ENJOY the games. When the Wii first came out, I went over to a friend's house who had the Wii, and he wouldn't stop raving about it. I was, at the time, looking at it completely objectively and thought, "what is so damn special about this? My arm is starting to hurt and the game I'm playing is crap". Wii fan-bois are like Apple fan-bois: their judgement is clouded by an intangible aura over their hardware.
What's the effin' big deal about this piece of shit?
Me neither! Let's vote em down, everyone, so that you can hardly see his post anymore!
Nintendo, how about releasing a new Zelda Game this year?
Rest assured, those of us who are buying the Wii hate the XBOX and PS3 as much as you hate the Wii. It wasn't meant for you. It was designed to open a new market with people who typically were NOT gamers and at that they have had great success.
Kinda late for this... by now, most of the people that wanted a Wii now already have one.
Or so one would surmise...
It's a lie that Wii has a shortage.
We had hell a lot US Wii in HK.
Now? We have HK Wii, so....
and Wii is not loved in HK now, nobody wants it.
It is boring.
I too think is a lie, there are not shortage in my country and my country is far away from everything.
I always thought that the Wii shortages were deliberate. 100% immediate sale of stock. Maintain a sense of urgency and tension amongst potential buyers. Keeps interest up.
I have a theory that than manufactured all the Wiis at once, and they've just been languishing in a warehouse since 2006.
Also keeps the price on ridiculously-overpriced (considering the last-gen technology it's filled with) hardware up too. How many consoles do you know that are still sold at retail for launch price 2 and a half years after launch?
Epic Wiin
will there be a price drop?
Unlikely. The Wii has no direct competitor and sales are still doing well, so if people are happy to pay the price tag then there is no need to reduce the price.
The problem is that when we see the lightened comments we think "Ooh, what did this moron say???"
I think low-rated comments get more attention than un-rated comments... or maybe that's just me.
eh.. it's not a bad console.. i have one but i'm trying to sell it if anyone's interested.. (email me) the conduit due to arrive this year... is looking great for a fps.. along with fatal frame (i dare you to play that in the frikkin' dark alone.) and the ever loved monster hunter tri. i'm actually hoping nobody buys it so i can hook it back up and wait to slay monsters.
I was at a Best Buy yesterday that had about 50 Wii consoles in stock, but no Mario Kart there or at any of the other three stores in town.
Never really see a shortage of Wii since the beginning of this year. Bestbuy, Costco, they have Wiis piling up. I mean sooner or later, everybody got one, and unless there's a Wii version of RROD, it's obvious to not see a shortage anymore.
I know why:
Consumption in Japan took its toll.
The Wii shortage should have stopped when Capcom admitted that Resident Evil 5 can't be ported to the Wii platform.
I spent Feb. 2007 - Nov. 2007 looking for one. Calling Walmarts, Toys'R'Us, Game Stops, Targets and checking on Sunday mornings to see if I could get one of the 2 that were just delivered (usually they never made it inside the halls because they were "reserved").
Then I just gave it up. If you have to go through such an hustle to buy one, just imagine if you need it fixed.
Time to release the black model.
Yeah. Not getting one anyway.
I was interested at first, but the "shortage" and the subsequent pile of crapware/shovelware on the Wii has made up my mind. No way would I waste my cash on that thing. I'd sooner get a Kindle 2, instead.
What wii shortage we have 2 in this house and bought one for all of my nieces and nephews.
you can go on BestBuy.com and do in-store pick up for it now. That is new this week
WiiFit is for suckers. Bring back the Power Pad!
